Financial Aid Counselor

We are searching for an experienced Financial Aid Counselor at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

The Financial Aid Counselor demonstrates problem solving abilities to handle all levels of complexity while advising students and families regarding federal, state, and institutional aid, private loans, payment plan options, and debt management. Helps to ensure that students clearly understand the process of applying for and accepting their financial aid, as well as their payment obligations. Works closely with other departments to identify at-risk students and strengthen enrollment management. Serves as the Financial Aid liaison for students receiving California State Grant funding. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid Compliance.




Required Qualifications:

 CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

?  Provide student- and family-focused counseling by offering personalized support to help families navigate college affordability options, including financial aid, scholarships, and payment plans, while developing tailored problem-solving strategies to address financial challenges and lowering barriers of access.
?  Responsive to email, voice mail and SMS outreach from students and families. Provides clear and effective communication in a timely manner.
?  Monitor and review Cal Grant recipients, maintaining regular communication with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to ensure students receive the full benefits they are eligible for, and promptly address any discrepancies or issues related to their awards.
?  Assist with semester and annual California State Grant reconciliation.
?  Assist with the administration of federal and state aid programs, perform need analysis, verification, document tracking and application follow up/communication. 
?  Maintain privacy and security of personally identifiable information including social security numbers, tax data in compliance with the IRS tax laws.
?  Adhere to FERPA guidelines in working with students and family members
?  Treats all students and families regardless of background with confidentiality and respect.
?  Conduct and track financial aid counseling, including exit interviews to ensure compliance for all graduating students
?  Oversee tracking and disbursement of outside scholarships
?  May be asked to lead information sessions and student workshops on topics related to financial aids for different College-sponsored events, meetings, and functions.
?  Review financial aid files and determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid.
?  Collaborate with other departments, such as Admissions, to provide accurate and timely information regarding financial aid. 
?  Assist with financial literacy initiatives.
?  Remain current with financial aid regulations by regularly attending federal and state training seminars as well as weekly required staff meetings.
?  Performs other related duties as assigned.
?  Occasional evening and weekend hours for appointment availability or events on campus.

REQUIRED SKILLS and EDUCATION: (Non-negotiable; minimum requirements, skills, experience, certifications)

?  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience
?  1-3 years of financial aid and/or student accounts experience
?  General knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs
?  Excellent customer service skills
?  Ability to compile and analyze data
?  Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
?  Strong technology proficiency




FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation Type: Hourly Wage

Salary Range: 23.72 - 28.19
