Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $70,304.00 Annually
Maximum $70,304.00 Annually

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Risk Management and Insurance, and with a secondary reporting line to the General Counsel, the Risk and Legal Operations Specialist (the “Specialist”) will play a critical role in coordinating risk-related data, insurance documentation, and as well as overseeing operations, policy management, and stakeholder communications. 

This position coordinates day-to-day operational functions processes related to the Office of Risk Management and Insurance and the Office of Legal Affairs. The role requires sound judgment, a high level of confidentiality, and the ability to independently coordinate projects, systems, and processes.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individual will interact with members of the university community, insurance broker, insurance representatives, law firms, and other outside entities and individuals. Individual must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities to be able to perform the essential function of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels; able to communicate with diplomacy and professionalism across all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and judgement.
  • High level of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and cloud-based platforms such as SharePoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of higher education operational structures, risk, and legal frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.


Required Qualifications

Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Public Administration, Legal Studies, Risk Management, or a related field.

 


Experience: 
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in administrative operations, risk management, legal affairs, or a related area.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in higher education, legal, or risk management settings.
  • Familiarity with property & casualty insurance, risk transfer documents, and claims handling processes.
  • Prior experience managing departmental operations, policy development, or compliance-related programs.
