ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $12,167 - $13,334 per month

CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $6,891 - $22,119 per month

POSITION PURPOSE: The Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Humanities (A&H) provides leadership and support in academic planning, faculty affairs, student success, and resource management. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with department chairs, faculty, staff, and university leadership to advance the College's mission and strategic goals. The College is comprised of seven departments - Art and Art History; Communications; English; History; Modern Languages &Literatures; Music and Theatre; and Philosophy and Religious Studies. The incumbent plays a critical role in supporting accreditation and assessment processes, guiding curriculum development, and faculty development, and fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Leadership & Strategic Planning

1. 1. Assist the Dean in the development and implementation of the College's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with university-wide goals.
   2. Coordinate and oversee scheduling in collaboration with department chairs, administrative staff, and advisors.
   3. As ex-officio member of the A&H curriculum committee, support curriculum development by reviewing proposals for new courses and programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and academic policies.
   4. Lead initiatives to expand interdisciplinary collaborations between departments within the College and across other academic units.
   5. Provide guidance on the implementation of emerging academic technologies to enhance teaching and research.
   6. Assist the Dean in budget planning and resource allocation, ensuring responsible stewardship of financial resources.
   7. Oversee faculty and staff workload assignments, ensuring efficient distribution of responsibilities and adherence to university policies and collective bargaining agreements, while maintaining a high standard of academic excellence.
   8. Ensure compliance with university policies, CSU regulations, and accreditation standards related to financial management.
   9. Based on data-informed need, advocate for increased resources to enhance instructional facilities, technology infrastructure, and research initiatives.
   10. Coordinate space and facilities management within the College and between the College and Academic Operations, ensuring that classrooms, laboratories, and performance spaces meet academic needs.

Faculty Affairs & Development

1. 1. In coordination with the Dean, provide oversight and mentorship in faculty recruitment efforts, ensuring diversity and excellence in hiring practices.
   2. Serve as an advisor and consultant for programs developing RTP criteria and standards, ensuring transparency and adherence to university guidelines.
   3. Organize professional development workshops, research grant-writing training, and instructional enhancement opportunities.
   4. Assist faculty in resolving workplace conflicts and fostering a collegial and supportive work environment.
   5. Support faculty in securing external funding and fellowships to enhance research, scholarship, and creative activity.
   6. Develop and implement initiatives that promote inclusive excellence and equitable opportunities for faculty advancement.

Student Success & Engagement

1. 1. Assist the Dean in developing and overseeing initiatives that promote student recruitment retention, engagement, and timely graduation.
   2. Collaborate with academic advisors, coordinators, and department chairs to create structured pathways for degree completion and academic support.
   3. Partner with Student Affairs Strategic and Enrollment Management (SASEM) and serve on advising-related committees.
   4. Facilitate clear and consistent communication with academic departments.
   5. Serve as the liaison between the college and the Tutoring Services Coordinator.
   6. Oversee the resolution of student appeals, grievances, and academic integrity cases, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
   7. In collaboration with constituencies, support the development of experiential learning opportunities, including service-learning projects, internships, and study abroad programs.
   8. Lead efforts to improve first-year experience programs and bridge programs that facilitate student transitions.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

1. 1. Serve as a liaison between the College and university administration, faculty governance bodies, and external stakeholders.
   2. Represent the College and Dean's Office in university-wide committees, CSU system meetings, and professional academic organizations.
   3. Assist the Dean in developing strategic partnerships with local organizations, cultural institutions, and industry leaders to enhance student opportunities and faculty collaborations.
   4. Promote the College's visibility through community outreach, public lectures, and arts and humanities initiatives.
   5. Work with alumni and donors to strengthen ties between the College and external constituencies, fostering a culture of philanthropy.
   6. Assist in developing efforts to expand community-based learning initiatives, enhancing student civic engagement and regional impact.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field appropriate to one of the departments in the College, and an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment as an Associate or Full professor with tenure in a discipline represented by the College. Demonstrated prior leadership experience as an administrator, department chair, academic leader, or equivalent experience (minimum of one year).

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) -

• Regular and reliable attendance is required.
• Skills in management of fiscal and personnel resources, facilities, research or academic program management and evaluation.
• Knowledge of accreditation, preferably with AACSB and/or NASPAA.
• Demonstrated skills in working with faculty and administrators from a variety of disciplines, programs, and university divisions, as well as engaging with community members, alumni, and the public.
• Knowledge of and commitment to student success.
• Ability to establish good working relationships with various college constituencies in a collegial and consultative manner, including faculty, students, staff, other administrators, alumni, industry, community members, and the public.
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the campus and community, and sensitivity to the needs of all students. Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity and ability to create a culture of belonging.
• Knowledge of the college's disciplines and undergraduate curriculum at a level sufficient for collaboration with department chairs for course planning and scheduling.
• Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
• Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
• Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
• Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
• Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
• Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
• Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
• Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in interdisciplinary program development and fostering faculty collaboration.
• Successful track record in grant writing, fundraising, and external partnerships.
• Experience with curriculum development and review.
• Experience working collaboratively with academic advising or student support services.
• Thorough knowledge of CSU policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with innovative teaching and learning strategies, including technology-enhanced instruction.
• Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sedentary Work - involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
