Within this setting, the Department of Mathematical Sciences seeks to strengthen its growing research profile in applied and computational mathematics while advancing excellence in teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student success. The new faculty hire will contribute to these goals by developing a productive and externally funded research program in applied or computational mathematics; fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across the University, including with the Ph.D. programs in Environmental Science, Materials Science, and Biomedical Science; and creating opportunities for graduate and undergraduate student involvement in research. The successful candidate will also contribute to the intellectual life of the Department through participation in departmental colloquia and other scholarly activities, while supporting the Department¿s broader mission in high-quality instruction, mentoring, and student success.
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor will contribute to the Department¿s teaching, research, and service missions. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics, including courses in applied or computational mathematics, as assigned by the Department Chair; develop and maintain an active research program leading to publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; pursue external research funding; mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and participate in service to the Department, College, University, and profession. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary research and graduate student mentorship through doctoral programs and collaborations across the University. The position is a tenure-track, academic-year (10-month) appointment, with the possibility of summer teaching or research.
Earned Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Applied Mathematics or Mathematics, by August 1, 2027.
Demonstrated potential for effective undergraduate and graduate teaching in mathematics.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline
Expertise in applied or computational mathematics, particularly in areas that complement or strengthen the Department¿s existing research programs.
Postdoctoral research experience at an accredited university or research institution.
Evidence of the potential for sustained research productivity, including publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and pursuit of external research funding.
Demonstrated experience applying mathematical or computational methods to interdisciplinary areas such as data science, environmental science, biomedical science, materials science, or related fields.
Experience or demonstrated potential to mentor graduate students and direct doctoral research in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs, including Environmental Science, Biomedical Science, or Materials Science.
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
