Within this setting, the new faculty hire will play a vital role in teaching K-8 mathematics content classes for prospective teachers. The mathematics education group works closely with the College of Education to develop and revise curriculum for courses for elementary and middle grade majors.
Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor, Mathematics Education position requires excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The typical annual workload is 60% teaching, 30% scholarship, and 10% service. The workload for this position includes teaching K-12 mathematics content courses and other courses in the department based on need at the undergraduate level. The position is a tenure-track academic year (10 month) appointment. While the primary teaching role will be for mathematics education courses, there may be the possibility to teach introductory core courses as well (i.e. College Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, and Calculus).
Earned terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education or a closely related field, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics by June 1, 2027.
Ability and willingness to teach both online and face-to-face courses and communicate content effectively.
Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education with demonstrated effectiveness in instruction and student mentoring.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Experience teaching mathematics content and methods courses for K-12 prospective teachers in both online and face-to-face settings at the university level.
At least 3 years experience teaching mathematics in grades P-12 in a US public school setting.
Master¿s degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
