Job Description Summary

The Traumatic Brain Injury Research Initiative within the Department of Neurology (TBIRI) is seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Clinical Research Coordinator A/B to support the coordination and execution of interventional and observational studies involving acute and chronic traumatic brain injury.

Job Description

The CRC A/B will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and report directly to the TBIRI Program Lead under the supervision of the TBIRI Principal Investigators. Responsibilities include coordinating multiple industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies across start-up, conduct, and closeout. The position also offers opportunities to gain experience with neuropsychological assessments, MRI imaging sessions, TMS-EEG, and other research technologies.

This role involves frequent interaction with patients with brain injury and their families in inpatient and outpatient settings. The coordinator must demonstrate strong interpersonal judgment and the ability to "read the room," recognizing when and how to approach patients and families and adapting communication style, tone, and timing to sensitive or complex situations.

The position requires flexibility and the ability to shift priorities in a fast-paced and unpredictable clinical research environment. Responsibilities include medical chart screening and recruitment, informed consent and enrollment, scheduling and conducting study visits, longitudinal follow-up, regulatory preparation and submission, study documentation, audit and monitoring preparation, and administrative and operational support.

In addition to the duties above, the CRC-B will be expected to work with greater independence, demonstrate stronger regulatory and clinical trial knowledge, and have the potential to assist with training and orienting other research staff.

Qualifications

• CRC-A: Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• CRC-B: Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Strong planning, organizational, and multitasking capabilities along with attention to detail, excellent follow through and problem solving skills necessary.
• Experience with federally-funded human subjects research preferred
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Highly organized and flexible
• Knowledge of PC applications and research databases (Microsoft Excel, RedCap, etc., preferred)

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
