Job Description
The Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) is an open consortium of universities, libraries, corporations and government research laboratories, based at the University of Pennsylvania. Since its founding, the LDC has played a key role in enabling the massive improvements in accuracy and utility of technologies such as speech recognition and machine translation, by creating, curating, and distributing several hundred thousand copies of several thousand datasets, covering 117 languages, to over 6,000 companies, universities and government research laboratories in more than 100 countries. We continue to help design and create new linguistic data sets, to assess human language technology system output, and to help explore new data-driven research methods, as such methods spread to new research problems in new disciplines.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
Provides Information Technology leadership for the LDC, including systems, networking, data storage, and support; implementing industry-standard solutions where appropriate and innovating where necessary. Manages the in-house Service Center, as well as cloud-based services and networking services. Supports operating systems including FreeBSD, Linux, TrueNAS/FreeNAS, Mac OSX, and Windows. Responsible for data and internal network security, regulatory compliance, and incident response. Designs, implements, and manages the lifecycle of LDC data. Recruits, trains, and supervises both temporary and full-time support staff, and manages assets, budgets, purchases, contracts, and vendor relationships pertaining to the computing infrastructure.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience in systems administration, cloud infrastructure, data management, and technical operations is required. Familiarity with user and administrator roles for operating systems including Linux, MacOS, and Windows. Experience with cloud systems such as AWS and Azure and experience configuring, ordering, and installing new hardware and software systems is required. Experience coordinating activities with a range of organizations at an institution like the University of Pennsylvania is preferred.
Work schedule: 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, or as needed Occasional or weekend and/or evening hours will be required based on business needs.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
