Job Description
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for the position of a
Full Professor (W3) of Plant-Soil Interactions
at the Institute of Crop Science to be filled by April 1, 2028.
The position holder is expected to address practice-oriented agricultural topics in plant nutrition, with a particular focus on plant and soil health. Innovative fertilization strategies and interactions at the root–soil interface may constitute key areas of research. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of agricultural systems and an orientation toward the principles of sustainability.
They should be capable of conducting both greenhouse experiments and field trials, and of actively contributing to interdisciplinary research consortia. We would like for the successful candidate to participate in the “TERRA: Terrestrial geo-biosphere interactions in a changing world” Cluster of Excellence.
In teaching, the position will cover practice-oriented plant nutrition and crop production related to fertilization. The future position holder must be able to offer courses in both German and English. For international applications, the successful candidate is expected to acquire German language skills within a reasonable period of time.
We are seeking an individual with a demonstrated history of internationally recognized research and a record of high-ranking, relevant publications in the field, as well as the capacity to acquire third-party funding.
The position offers attractive conditions for first-time full professor appointees. Prerequisites for applicants are habilitation or an equivalent research and teaching record which may have been established during a Junior or Assistant Professorship. The University of Hohenheim is certified with the seal of approval for fair and transparent appointment procedures by the ‘German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV)’. The advertised position is tenured. If appointed as full professor for the first time, the University of Hohenheim reserves its right to probationary employment. With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.

The University of Hohenheim is the oldest university in the city of Stuttgart, Germany. It was founded in 1818, after the city had been racked by a devastating famine. The university’s original purpose was to teach agricultural techniques and experiment with more efficient farming techniques, to prevent such a disaster ever happening again.
There are three faculties at the university: Agricultural Sciences, Natural Sciences and Business, Economics and Social Sciences. They offer Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes.
International cooperation takes high priority at the university. Degrees are offered in English and students are encouraged to take part in study abroad schemes. The university has exchange agreements with institutions around the world, including universities in the United States, Australia and Singapore.
The campus is based in a palace, the former residence of Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg. Duke von Württemberg constructed the palace and its surrounding gardens in the 1700s. Today, the well-maintained grounds are where Hohenheim students take classes.
With its gardens and green spaces home to over 400 different plant species, Hohenheim’s campus is easy and pleasant to get around by foot.
Three museums are located on the Hohenheim campus. The German Agricultural Museum looks at the country’s history of farming. The History of Hohenheim Museum houses collections related to the town, palace and the university itself. The Zoology and Veterinary Museum has several biological and medical curiosities.
