
Senior Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse Analyst
Job Description Summary:
Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and the administration of the organization’s operational data store (ODS) and BI applications, including IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI. This role involves working closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and others to ensure that the data warehouse and BI platforms meet business intelligence and reporting requirements. The incumbent will be responsible for the end-to-end management of BI applications and data integration processes, ensuring optimal performance, security, and data accuracy. Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of a centralized data warehouse and BI infrastructure to support departmental and University reporting, analytics, and dashboards. This role addresses workflow inefficiencies, integrates disparate data sources (Banner, Slate, HR, finance, and external files), ensures data integrity, and enables trusted, timely, and actionable data for institutional decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications:
8 years of Experience with the following Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, including star schemas, snowflake schemas, and Operational Data Store (ODS) architecture.
- Proficiency in data integration tools and ETL/ELT processes, including knowledge of data transformation and loading techniques.
- Expertise in IBM Cognos, including Report Studio, Framework Manager, and Cognos Administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power Query.
- Strong SQL skills for querying databases and managing data transformations.
- Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
8 years of Experience with the following Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to analyze complex business requirements and translate them into effective BI solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving data and application-related issues.
- Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy and data integrity
8 years of Experience with the following Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business users to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Ability to provide training and support to end-users, enhancing their ability to use BI tools effectively.
8 years of excellent demonstrable written and verbal skills.
- 4 year of experience Experience managing BI-related projects, including planning, execution, and delivery within agreed timelines. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Experience gathering requiremets needed to create business and functional project or reporting specification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data warehouse administration, business intelligence, and application administration in IBM Cognos and Microsoft PowerBI.
- Strong Experience with programming and scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, SQL R, C+++, CLI, HTML5, XMNL).
- Ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and data presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
- Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization and with outside vendors. Possess excellent documentations skill for reports and workflow processing.
- Must be self-motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills. Excellent analytical skills to define and reengineer business process to maximize the capabilities of technology without sacrificing the functional experience, business process flow, efficiencies or effectiveness
- Working knowledge of data management software and database systems
- Demonnstarated software repository skills. Demostrated testing and test planning skills. Demonstrated advanced and strong PL/SQL knowledge and tuning skills and oracle database design, along with an understanding of different data warehousing and dimensional modeling concept.
- Demonstrated ability to work with end users in determining proposed data warehouse and reporting solutions, including enabling standard functionality, as well as custom modification to fulfill departmental needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and closely with others according to project needs.
- Demostrated ability to maintain a customer focus in providing technoloty services. Demonstrated skills in requirements gathering, designing, prototyping, troubleshooting and supporting users. Statistical analysis and/or math skills
- Develop and implement test plans to ensure successfully delivery of a project.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, and communicate clearly. SQL server and Oracle database query experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Information. Management, Data Analytics, or related field with equivalent experience.
- Ability to analyze large / complex datasets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), and professional demeanor and presentation, including active listening and ability to convey information clearly.
- Analytical with strong problem-solving skills, takes initiative and uses good judgment, excellent follow-up and troubleshooting skills.
- High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Certifications : A-CSD, Programmer, Scrum Developer, CSSLP/ISC2 .
Specific Duties:
Duty: Data Warehouse Administration (ODS) – Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of the institutional Operational Data Store (ODS) and supporting data warehouse infrastructure. Manage ETL processes to ensure accurate data extraction, transformation, and integration across institutional systems. Monitor data warehouse performance, manage storage resources, and ensure reliable daily operations. Maintain data models, schemas, and metadata to support reporting and analytics. Optimize database performance, including indexing, partitioning, and query tuning for high-volume datasets. Implement and maintain data governance policies and procedures to support data integrity, security, and compliance. Collaborate with data users and technical stakeholders to design and implement data models that support institutional reporting and analytics needs. Conduct data analysis and deliver actionable insights that support institutional initiatives and performance monitoring
Percentage of Time: 30%
Duty: Business Intelligence & Reporting – Collaborate with campus stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into business intelligence solutions. Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and institutional metrics that support strategic planning and operational decision-making. Ensure BI reports and dashboards are up-to-date, accurate, and delivered on schedule. Provide training and support for end-users utilizing Cognos and Power BI tools. Conduct data analysis and deliver actionable insights that support institutional initiatives and performance monitoring.
Percentage of Time: 20%
Duty: Project Management & Collaboration – Lead or participate in data and business intelligence initiatives that improve institutional reporting infrastructure. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Institutional Research, Information Technology, Finance, Operations, and other administrative units to align analytics capabilities with institutional goals. Provide support to users, troubleshoot data or application issues, and implement fixes or improvements. Document BI processes, data models, ETL processes, and BI application configurations, standards, and best practices to ensure consistency across projects. Manage complex communication flows among multiple institutional stakeholders involved in data and reporting initiatives. .
Percentage of Time: 15%
Duty: Performance Monitoring & Optimization – Identify opportunities to improve data warehouse architecture, BI applications, and data quality. Support advanced analytics initiatives, including data mining, predictive modeling, and self-service BI. Monitor the performance of BI applications and the Operational Data Store to ensure reliability and efficiency. Identify opportunities for system optimization and implement improvements in query performance, reporting efficiency, and dashboard responsiveness. Automate routine reporting and data processes to reduce manual workload and improve operational efficiency

Duty: BI Application Administration (IBM Cognos & Power BI) serve as a backup – Install, configure, and maintain Cognos and Power BI environments to ensure system availability and performance. Manage user access, security roles, and permissions within both platforms. Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations aligned with institutional business requirements. Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate with vendors when necessary to resolve technical problems. Stay current with platform updates, patches, and new features and ensure their smooth implementation. Provide training and support for end-users utilizing Cognos and Power BI tools.
Percentage of Time: 15%
Duty: Performs other special projects and assignments as requested.

Maximum: $114,535.11
Minimum: $98,718.83
