Job Description:

Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine invites applications for part time adjunct faculty members in the general practice of dentistry for the KCU Oral Health Center. The College expects to serve patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area. Faculty must be motivated and engaged clinicians who are excited to help build an innovative and dynamic academic and clinical dental medicine program, educating the next generation of dentists while providing comprehensive care to a rural and diverse group of patients.

Adjunct faculty members will work with the Group Practice Leaders (GPLs), Assistant Group Practice Leaders (AGPLs) and Group Practice Coordinators (GPCs) to oversee the students, patients and staff assigned to their groups and assist in the management of all patient care delivered within the groups. Adjunct faculty members play a key role in predoctoral education and clinical operations and student's achievement of clinical competencies.

Responsibilities of the adjunct faculty member include but are not limited to assisting the GPL and AGPL in the following:

  • Assuring the safe and effective delivery of patient care by the dental students
  • Providing clinical education to students whether assisting or providing direct care
  • Comprehension of advanced technologies, digital workflow and/or dental implants to support expansion of the advanced technology curricula
  • Work collaboratively with the pre-doctoral specialty faculty members and adjunct faculty when they are teaching in the pre-doctoral group practices
  • Monitoring students' compliance with CDM's infection control & clinical guidelines
  • Supervising, educating and coaching students in the provision of patient care
  • Clinical instruction in general dentistry to pre-doctoral dental students within the simulation laboratory and group practice



Qualifications:

  • D.D.S./D.M.D. degree
  • Active license in Missouri or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouri; must obtain before start
  • Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience and advanced training in general or restorative dentistry
  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry, an enthusiasm for dental education, and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, startup academic environment
  • A strong desire to improve the oral and overall health for patients in the region through collaboration with other primary care professionals is encouraged
