Summary:


The Rollins College Information Technology Department is seeking an Instruction Design and Technology Manager to join their team! The Instructional Design & Technology Manager is part of the IT Engagement & Experience team and leads the Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) team as a key driver of technology adoption across campus. This role partners with faculty to enhance teaching and learning through thoughtful instructional design and pedagogy while also helping faculty, staff, and students build confidence and fluency with the college's technology toolkit. The manager provides strategic leadership for instructional technology services, guides a collaborative team focused on consultation, training, and resource development, and shapes how our campus community experiences and engages with technology in support of teaching, learning, and digital literacy.

Providing our Community With Outstanding Experiences

Help faculty enhance teaching and enrich student learning through best practice use of digital tools

  • Provide consultations, workshops, and resources that support and strengthen the adoption of college-supported technologies and accompanying digital literacies
  • Establish and maintain productive partnerships with faculty to understand their educational technology needs and objectives
  • Partner with faculty to support technology-enhanced assignments and activities, like multimodal class assignments, providing resources, class trainings, and student support
  • Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for the college's teaching and learning technologies


Keeping our Technology Future Ready

Help enhance campus adoption of IT-provided technology

  • Partner with faculty, IT colleagues, and academic stakeholders on instructional technology pilots, evaluations, and implementations
  • Create awareness of current and evolving practices in instructional design, digital pedagogy, and emerging tools
  • Embrace and embed best practices in accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into all aspects of instructional technology and resource development. Actively promote these standards in the support we provide
  • Collaborate internally and across campus to identify training and adoption needs and contribute to the strategy and training resources to address them
  • Contribute to a culture of product management by staying current and promoting new features and capabilities of existing products
  • Partner with IT colleagues and other campus stakeholders on IT change management efforts and other strategic priorities for IT


Building a Sustainable Team and Support Model

Foster a culture of shared knowledge and growth by mentoring student employees, documenting solutions, and collaborating across teams to build a sustainable support model

  • Supervise, coach, and develop professional staff; foster a culture of collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with IT leadership to evaluate emerging trends and process improvements, working together to shape our instructional technology strategy and adoption efforts
  • Guide the configuration, maintenance, and vendor relationships of our instructional technologies (e.g., Canvas and Kaltura) so they remain reliable and user friendly for our campus
  • Manage and contribute to documentation, communications, and resource libraries that support ongoing technology adoption, learning, and campus digital literacy
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues to create and maintain internal documentation that supports onboarding, cross-training, and shared understanding of how the team works
  • Coordinate workflows, processes, and project assignments to ensure predictable, responsive support for faculty and campus partners, leveraging our ITSM and project management solutions
  • Serve as an escalation point for instructional technology related questions and issues and a backup for basic Help Desk support
  • Support IT projects and initiatives across teams by sharing expertise in instructional design and teaching and learning


Minimum Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or other related field
  • Experience working with instructional technologies


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising a team
  • Experience with technical writing and/or creating faculty resources


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Instructional Design & Pedagogy

  • Knowledge of (and ability to apply) Universal Design for Learning and other instructional design theories and pedagogical methods
  • Knowledge of online, hybrid (blended), and hyflex teaching strategies and best practices
  • Ability to locate and understand scholarly research on teaching & learning and then apply and share that knowledge


Communication & Collaboration

  • Ability to identify, develop, and facilitate engaging, accessible, user-centered, and high-value professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to design simple, user-friendly, accessible, and visually appealing resources (e.g., PPTs, infographics, social media posts, video shorts, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups including those with varying levels of technical skills
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and academic disciplines
  • Ability to both apply a collaborative approach to projects and challenges and make independent judgments/decisions within established guidelines
  • Excel in active listening and problem diagnosis, adeptly interpreting and understanding user issues, even when expressed without technical clarity
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff and create positive work environments


Organization & Adaptability

  • Ability to adapt to changes in technologies and assist others in this adaptation
  • Highly flexible, creative, and able to adapt to new project demands, workgroups, and hardware and software environments
  • Strong project management skills (i.e., break projects down into steps, use backward planning to establish timelines, organize and prioritize workload, regularly communicate progress, and meet deadlines)


Technical Expertise & Tools

  • Demonstrate effective use of a wide range of academic technologies, including Learning Management Systems, Generative AI, WordPress, Podcasting and Video tools, Adobe Creative Cloud apps
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies quickly


Work Schedule:

  • Full-time schedule Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, 37.5 hours per week
  • Flexible schedules or overtime may be required to meet the demands of the academic calendars


Work Environment:

  • This is a campus-based position working in Winter Park, FL
  • Front-facing customer service position
  • Primarily indoor environment which does require outdoor transit between buildings and occasional outdoor event support
  • Physical activity includes walking across campus carrying or carting equipment, lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, stooping, stretching, and standing
