Job Summary

The Department of Human Services and Cultural Studies (HSCS) at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is now accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Social Work beginning August 2027.  Priority reviews of candidates will begin on November 6, but the position will remain open and accepting applications until filled.

Formed in 2022, HSCS is an exciting, multidisciplinary program and currently offers a wide variety of courses in Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology, Religious Studies, African American Studies, and Gender Studies to approximately 200 undergraduate majors. The Department houses a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with concentrations in: Applied Sociology, Gerontology, and Social Work.  Additionally, there are minors in: African American Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Religious Studies, Social Work, and Sociology.

Applicants should hold a terminal degree in Social Work.  Ideally, candidates will have at least two years of teaching experience and active involvement in the practice of social work. 

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and teach upper-level undergraduate Social Work, Human Services, and Sociology courses in the Human Services program. Such courses may be related, but not limited, to social work policy, advocacy and organization, and introduction to Sociology. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, student engagement, research, and service to the college and community.

Responsibilities

Essential Function 1 -
Teaching four undergraduate courses every fall and spring semester

Essential Function 2 -
Mentoring and student engagement

Essential Function 3 -
Evaluating students to measure their progress in achieving institutional and course goals

Essential Function 4 -
Developing courses related to social work

Essential Function 5 -
Conducting research and service commensurate with rank

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., DSW, or MSW degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in Social Work (or 30 quarter credits) conferred before August 1, 2027

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or DSW in Social Work
  • Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure
  • 2 or more years college level teaching experience in Social Work
  • 2 or more years experience in the practice of Social Work
  • Specializations in social work policy, social work advocacy, social work program evaluation and administration, medical social work, disaster and crisis intervention, substance abuse and/or social work practice with global populations
