About the Role
Clinical Instructors play a vital role in guiding nursing students through hands-on clinical experiences in alignment with respective course objectives. Instructors supervise and mentor students in providing safe, equitable, and high-quality person-centered care, while assisting development of:
• Clinical judgment and decision-making skills
• Competency in nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudes
• Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams
• Evidence-based practice
Clinical Instructors also evaluate student performance, provide performance feedback, and support student growth as future professionals in nursing.
Course Overview
NURS 2150 prepares students to care for second‑year undergraduate nursing course focused on the health care of women and infants.
The course integrates:
- Women's health across the lifespan (prenatal, postpartum, reproductive health)
- Infant care (newborn assessment, feeding, growth and development, family support)
- Interdisciplinary collaboration in maternal and infant health settings
Clinical Dates: February 13, 2027 - April 25, 2027. 8-hour shifts x 8 weeks. No clinical over spring break (3/6-3/14/27) or Easter weekend 3/27-2/28
Clinical Sections: Weekend & Weekdays available; day shift (0645-1515) & evening shift (1445-2315) available
Location: Penn Medicine inpatient OB units - Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania & Pennsylvania Hospital available
Qualifications
- MSN in progress, or completed MSN, DNP or PhD in Nursing
- Active PA RN license
- Inpatient OB RN experience
- Passion for teaching and mentoring
- Commitment to equity, safety, and excellence in nursing practice
