Mechanical Engineering Faculty

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), University of Michigan (U-M), Ann Arbor, seeks outstanding scholars to apply for open tenure-track positions in all mechanical engineering subdisciplines. Areas of particular interest include design, solid mechanics, mechanics of materials, automotive engineering, fuel sciences, and biosystems, along with artificial intelligence applied in these areas. We are especially interested in individuals who are committed to developing collaborative research programs across the university and enthusiastic about undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related field.  We seek strong scholars who will provide inspiration, leadership, and impact in research, teaching, and service and contribute to the goals of the University and Department.  For best consideration, candidates are encouraged to apply now and certainly before November 20, 2026 as applications will be reviewed immediately upon receipt.

The U-M Mechanical Engineering Department is the home of 60 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 15 research faculty, over 700 graduate students (over 280 Ph.D. students) and 1,000 undergraduate students. The U-M ME Department is well known for its strengths in major mechanical engineering core disciplines as well as in interdisciplinary and emerging areas.
