Appointment: This is a 12-18 month temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) position. While employment beyond this appointment is not guaranteed, future opportunities for similar positions may become available. 

Work Location: 
This position offers a hybrid work environment, with periodic in-person collaboration and attendance expected at our Tacoma, WA campus. Specific onsite expectations will be discussed during the hiring process.

Position Summary: 

 

University of Puget Sound is looking for an experienced PeopleSoft developer that will help maintain our Enterprise Resource Products through delivered and custom functionality: PeopleSoft Campus, Finance, and Human Resources applications. The PeopleSoft Developer role reports to the Senior Technical Program Manager and will need to be able to design and develop new enhancements and features for PeopleSoft products using PeopleTools, PeopleCode, and PL/SQL.  

 

This PeopleSoft Developer will be responsible for gathering requirements, creating mockups, then designing and developing enhancements and features. This role is a key technical resource for other development staff, providing technical advice, review, training and support for various projects.  

 

They must demonstrate and apply a variety of advanced technical and analytical skills and be able to demonstrate development of more complex technical designs and applications features. The PeopleSoft Developer also assists functional staff in evaluating PeopleSoft features and configurations as well as with general troubleshooting and operational support.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Analyze, develop, and maintain administrative applications.
  • Assist/mentor development staff in implementation and troubleshooting of their development.
  • Manage development support and maintenance functions.
  • Document and ensure adherence to university standards in all areas of application development.
  • Oversee day-to-day development activities ensuring quality product delivery, standards compliance, and timely completion.
  • Provide database application support, triaging support tickets, security support, trouble-shooting issues, and promptly communicating with customers.
  • Design and develop interfaces between PeopleSoft and external vendor products.
  • Participate in peer code reviews, testing, and other well-defined development procedures.
  • Contribute to and produce functional and technical documentation as assigned.
  • Gather and assess functional requirements and mockups for feasibility.
  • Assist functional staff in evaluating and researching configuration and delivered functionality to determine best fit for business process needs.
  • Design tables, pages, and processes in coordination with functional requirements, security needs and university policies and processes.
  • Estimate work effort for development tasks.
  • Understand available integration technologies.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and security of both systems and data.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Develop programs in a way that contributes to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Advise and guide PeopleSoft users as they approach project work related to PeopleSoft.
  • Research, learn, and implement applicable emerging technologies in support of university mission and goals.

How will this position's time be spent? 

40% - Modifies and adapts existing code and creates new, complex programs using standard procedures and techniques with limited supervision; performs and or leads testing activities; develops and maintains required documentation; ensures final quality assurance and integrity of deliverables.
30% - Troubleshoots, investigates, analyzes, and solves complex and escalated PeopleSoft software problems as identified by the functional team and end users.
15% - Collaborates with third-party vendors and Oracle Services to implement external integrations.
10% - Review and troubleshoot regular application patches and tools upgrades. 
5% - Mentors and provides guidance to junior developers; performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of related education and experience. 5 years of programming, database systems, and systems analysis work experience required including demonstrated experience with complex solution delivery
  • Strong knowledge of database design and architecture
  • Thorough understanding of the development lifecycle and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems design and architecture with an underlying understanding of the integration of systems hardware, software, and networks
  • Experience in functional/business requirements gathering and design of technical specifications for customizations
  • Ability to troubleshoot application-related problems
  • Ability to manage teams and projects
  • Organizational, analytic, and problem solving skills

Highly Desired Qualifications: 

  • Strong technical experience related to development within the PeopleSoft ERP system. Experience using the PeopleSoft Application Designer toolset (App Engine, App Packages, Integration Broker, Data Mover, Component Interface, PeopleCode, Page/Component)
  • Experience with Oracle database and tools, including SQL and PL/SQL
  • Experience troubleshooting and testing Oracle/PeopleSoft ERPs (HCM/FMS/CS)
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Integration Broker and developing REST API web services
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Fluid Development
  • Development experience in a higher education setting
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

The anticipated range for this position is $88,491 to $103,535 annually. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
