Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the Department Coordinator supports the basic functions and administrative work of the Department of Communication Studies, including but not limited to coordinating the development, implementation, and maintenance of the SOC in SOLAR in accordance with academic and scheduling decisions established by the Department Chair in coordination with the College SOC & Facilities Lead Analyst. The incumbent is responsible for providing SOC analysis and administrative support to the Department Chair, maintaining entitlement SOC information, preparing and analyzing course enrollment reports, SOC data analysis, identifying scheduling and enrollment issues and providing recommendations, and general support of the Chair, Academic Advisor, and Department Analyst as needed and directed.

• Coordinate the development, implementation, maintenance, and audit of the department Schedule of Classes and final exams schedule.
• Compile and analyze historical enrollment, course-demand, scheduling, and other relevant data to identify enrollment trends.
• Troubleshoots and resolves student scheduling conflicts in addition to maintaining/issuing permission numbers for classes.
• Coordinates with department analyst to provide administrative and logistical support for student success initiatives such as Community Academic Pathways for Student Success (CAPSS), Matador Speech and Debate Team, Performance Ensemble and Communication for Youth Institute (CYI) and the campus-wide Civil Discourse & Social Change Initiative (CDSC).
• Maintains the department calendar and schedules appointments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to five (5) years of full-time, progressively responsible administrative or technical office management experience in an administrative capacity exercising independent judgment and leading the work of others.
• Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in business or job-related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of academic scheduling, enrollment management, faculty utilization reporting, course-demand analysis, lecturer appointment processes, student evaluation procedures, and university systems such as SOC, APDB, and CSUN Box.
• Ability to analyze enrollment and scheduling data; coordinate information among faculty, department leadership, college personnel, and bookstore representatives; resolve student scheduling issues; maintain accurate records and waitlists; communicate recommendations; and process scheduling, enrollment, lecturer appointment, and textbook-ordering activities accurately and timely.
• Knowledge of department office operations, customer service practices, records management, calendar coordination, university procurement procedures, chargeback processing, parking services, payroll warrant distribution, and electronic file systems such as CSUN Box.
• Ability to communicate professionally with visitors, faculty, staff, and students; prepare correspondence and reports; coordinate meetings and appointments; maintain accurate records and inventories; respond to inquiries; process administrative transactions; and provide timely referrals and support.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

• The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
• Classification: 1035 / Administrative Support Coordinator / 2
• The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $4367 - $4543 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4367 - $6362 per month.
• HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
• This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
• The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs
