Adjunct Faculty, Public Policy Programs
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
The Department of Public Policy Programs seeks a public service academic or professional to teach Introduction to Law for Public Administration (3 units) in the Spring semester. The course will be offered in a synchronous, online format mostly in the evening to accommodate the schedules of students who are also working professionals. Adjunct professors are part-time, non-tenure/tenure track employees, contracted via mutually signed offer letters, to teach specific classes during specific semesters (specific dates) as outlined in the offer letter.
The department's faculty draw from the region's most distinguished academics and professionals and offers a wealth of practical and focused experience to our students. With diverse and accomplished faculty, students can experience different pedagogical approaches and gain access to leading practitioners. Using practical experience, our faculty are able to educate students on the current and future practices of government, especially those happening at the state level in California.
This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Graduate, Online & International Programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicant must possess an advanced degree in law (JD, LLM, MSL, or JSD).
- Relevant experience such as teaching or legal practice in this field is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicant must possess the capacity to translate substantive law and policy content into effective learning outcomes, lectures, and hands-on tasks such as discussion, assignments, and quizzes.
- Applicant must have minimal facility with computer navigation and possess the ability to quickly learn new software, including but not limited to Canvas and Zoom.
- Applicant must possess the ability to meet deadlines and coordinate with a team.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
