Job Summary/Basic Function
The Audiovisual (AV) Events Technician position provides support for academic and non-academic Wright State University events (on and off campus), ensuring consistent, high-quality operation of audiovisual systems across supported spaces. The role applies broad working knowledge to diagnose and resolve moderately complex issues, adapt established procedures when needed, and reduce repeat incidents through accurate resolution and documentation. The role contributes to service reliability and first-time resolution within the immediate support domain.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and five years (FT) related work experience, OR two years of post-secondary education and three years of (FT) related work experience.
• Basic knowledge of audiovisual equipment, computer hardware, and presentation technologies.
• Demonstrated customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Electronics, Engineering, Communications, RTV (Radio, Television, Film), Broadcast Journalism, Information Systems, Recording & Production, Sound & Audio, Music, Show Production, Music Technology, or related field. Experience in the operation or installation of audio systems in conferencing centers, classrooms, and arenas, or experience with audio systems through work within AV installation and operation companies.
• Experience supporting live events, AV installations, or high-profile technical operations
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and supporting AV/multimedia systems in classroom or enterprise environments.
• Experience supporting customers in a technical setting.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow) and ability to meet service level expectations.
• Experience with AV monitoring tools and preventative maintenance practices
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and troubleshooting guides.

Essential Functions and percent of time

Technical Event Management & Support
Provide onsite AV support for campus events, including lectures, performances, conferences, board meetings, and special programs. Event setup to teardown: plan and execute load-in, deployment, operation, and coordination of event logistics. Independently resolves routine and moderately complex AV issues using established tools, procedures, and judgment. Operate digital audio consoles to mix, EQ, gate, and compress live sources. Design event-appropriate audio packages including front-of-house, monitors, and wireless microphone systems. Manage signal flow and gain structure from input through amplification. Offer responsive, on-the-ground troubleshooting and support for faculty, staff, guest speakers, and performers. Train customers on the operation of systems as needed. Coordinate with Student Union Administration and clients through weekly production meetings reviewing upcoming events and tasks.

Nutter Center & Electronic Classroom Support
Assist audio/video production crew and broadcast director with the production of ESPN+ broadcasts and in-house productions for all the athletic events in the Nutter Center and at all remote athletic facilities. At the direction of the broadcast Engineer: deliver, setup and operate equipment for broadcasting/web streaming. Support may include non-athletic events delivered within the Nutter Center facility. Assist Classroom Engineers with tier 2/3 support for academic classrooms, administrative conference rooms, and other meeting spaces. This support includesbut is not limited to: installation, configure, terminate, and integration of classroom AV systems and components, including displays, projectors, control systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, and other classroom and meeting space technology components.

Equipment Support and Maintenance
Troubleshoot all installed and portable systems and perform routine maintenance on all equipment. Perform necessary repairs, or coordinate the repairs with others as needed. Coordinate or perform installation of new or replacement equipment, and create/maintain a list of outdated or irreparable equipment critical to ensuring quality A/V outcomes. Assist other areas of CaTS with installations/repairs, as needs arise.

Working Conditions
Involves climbing ladders, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds. May be required to enter spaces with bio-chemical hazard precautions. Occasionally involves extensive walking, with or without pushing utility carts.
