Assistant Professor - Tenure TrackMusical Theatre Vocal PerformanceDobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance Holland College of Arts and MediaPrimary ResponsibilitiesDobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University seeks a tenure track, assistant professor of musical theatre vocal performance beginning fall 2027. The candidate will join an energetic 22-person theatre and dance faculty and staff, teaching the equivalent of 12-credit hours per semester in such classes as musical theatre class and private voice, theory, score study, performance, and musical theatre history. The faculty member will also serve as music director for select main stage musicals, as well as recruit, mentor, advise BFA musical theatre and acting majors, and potentially serve in a leadership role in the BFA program. Additionally, the faculty member will serve on department and university committees as assigned, while continuing outside professional endeavors. The program maintains approximately 200 BFA and BA majors and operates as part of the Holland College of Arts and Media in the outstanding River Campus facilities. The university is NAST-accredited, and the musical theatre program is nationally ranked.
Required Qualifications
- MFA in Musical Theatre or Acting; or MM or DMA in Vocal Pedagogy or Vocal Performance with an emphasis in Musical Theatre and/or with significant professional experience (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university)
- Experience teaching in a college or university program as a graduate assistant, instructor, assistant professor or above
- Proven record of successful teaching private and class voice at the university level
- Evidence of ability to teach music theory and musical theatre score study and history
- Evidence of ability to teach musical theatre performance
- Evidence of ability to serve as music director of large-scale musicals
- Evidence of leadership ability
- Proven record of significant professional experience as an actor/singer/vocal coach in musical theatre
- Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain musical theatre majors
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage university and outside professional committees
- Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
