Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $82,000.00 Annually
Maximum $90,000.00 Annually

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Vice Provost, Student Standards and Resolution, the Director, Office of Student Conduct and Professionalism advances Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) priorities of humanism, procedural fairness and integrity. The Director, Office of Student Conduct and Professionalism is primarily responsible for all phases of the University student conduct process, including comprehensive fact-finding, case evaluation, and the administration of an equitable and consistent student conduct hearing process for all WesternU students in alignment with University policy and procedures.

The Director gathers data, routes/refers cases to other University offices as needed, prepares formal notices, assembles conduct hearing panels, and facilitates conduct hearings. Additionally, the role includes preparing and managing official notices and documentation packets throughout the lifecycle of a conduct proceeding. The individual in this position must effectively manage competing priorities within a dynamic and evolving work environment, ensuring timely responsiveness to the needs of both the office and the University. Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, a strong sense of timeliness, and meticulous attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are as follows:

Knowledge of:

  • FERPA, conflict resolution, evidence-gathering techniques, interviewing techniques, policy interpretation, objective case report writing, and risk assessment.
  • A thorough understanding and incorporation of the standard protocols of confidentiality.
  • Proficient and advanced computer skills necessary to create documents, spreadsheets, tables, and/or forms in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat Professional, and any other software programs as required by the position.


Skill:

  • Good organization skills necessary to prioritize and assist with detail-oriented project assignments in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented office. Proactive team player who assumes ownership of assigned projects.
  • Excellent anticipation skills and attention to detail required.
  • Experience with fax, copy machine, scanner, and telephone operation.

Ability to:

  • Must be able to demonstrate high level critical thinking skills and effective decision making.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with students, administration, faculty, and staff. Well-developed communication skills used to communicate complex ideas succinctly. Must have strong and savvy interpersonal skills and effective relationship cultivation.
  • Must be able to work in a team-based setting yet functioning independently as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.

Required Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in student conduct, student affairs, higher education administration, conflict resolution, or a closely related field.


Experience or Training:

  • Experience with student conduct, student affairs, conflict resolution, or interpreting and administering university policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks and projects without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to care and support students of concern.
  • Experience designing and presenting educational/training workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and synthesize concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to humanism, fairness and creating inclusive environments.

Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • Travel may be required for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, and/or events in support of the overall objective of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Services Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or related field.
  • Motivational interviewing skills.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Experience using databases.

Essential Job Duties
Student Conduct: Adjudication and Resolution

  • Primarily responsible for all phases of the University student conduct process, including comprehensive fact-finding, case evaluation, and administration of a fair, equitable, and consistent student conduct process for all WesternU students in accordance with University policies and procedures.
  • Manages student conduct cases from initial report through final resolution, ensuring timely, equitable, and consistent application of University policies, procedures, and principles of procedural fairness.
  • Conducts comprehensive investigations by:
    • Interviewing students, faculty, staff, and witnesses.
    • Collecting and reviewing documentary and electronic evidence.
    • Assessing credibility of information and participants.
    • Preparing detailed investigative summaries and case recommendations.

Serves as the primary case administrator for complex and sensitive student conduct matters, including:
  • Academic misconduct.
  • Behavioral concerns.
  • Professionalism violations.
  • Other alleged policy violations.
Recruits, coordinates, and facilitates student conduct hearing panels.Develops orientation materials and provides ongoing training to hearing officers and panel members regarding:
  • University policies and procedures.
  • Confidentiality requirements.
  • Principles of procedural fairness.
Receives and reviews referrals related to student conduct and professionalism violations submitted to the Office of Student Conduct and Professionalism.Conducts triage of reported concerns to determine the appropriate resolution pathway in alignment with University policies and procedures.Gathers, compiles, and organizes relevant information to support case development and resolution.Drafts and issues formal case-related correspondence, including:
  • Notices of alleged violations.
  • Findings and decisions.
  • Sanctions and corrective actions.
  • Other official conduct-related communications.
Monitors and tracks student responses and compliance, issuing follow-up communications as necessary.Schedules and coordinates meetings with students, faculty, staff, hearing panel members, and other relevant parties.Assembles conduct hearing panels and supports the training of panel members using established departmental materials and procedures.Administers conduct hearings, ensuring proceedings are conducted in accordance with established University policies and procedures.Maintains and manages the student conduct case management database, including:
  • Creation of case files.
  • Ongoing case updates.
  • Case closure and record maintenance.
Maintains confidential student conduct records and databases in compliance with:
  • FERPA requirements.
  • Institutional policies.
  • Applicable records retention standards and regulations.


Campus Support and Outreach:

  • Develops and delivers educational programming that promotes academic integrity, professionalism, ethical decision-making, restorative practices, and student accountability.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on student conduct policies by providing consultation, guidance, and training to faculty, staff, administrators, and student organizations.
  • Assists in the review, development, and continuous improvement of student conduct policies, procedures, and operating guidelines to ensure alignment with institutional priorities, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets student conduct data and assessment metrics to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and prepare reports that support institutional planning, assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Collaborates with colleges, academic programs, and administrative departments to promote awareness of behavioral expectations, professionalism standards, conflict resolution practices, and student success initiatives.
  • Participates in cross-functional committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives that support student well-being, campus safety, institutional effectiveness, and a positive campus community.


Professional Engagement, Strategic Initiatives, and University Service

  • Participates in professional development events, workshops, and training opportunities to benchmark best practices, strengthen core competencies, and support the strategic goals of the Office of Student Conduct and Professionalism.
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging federal and state regulations, higher education trends, best practices, and legal developments related to student conduct, behavioral intervention, and student affairs.
  • Represents the Office of Student Standards and Resolution on University committees, professional organizations, conferences, and community partnerships as assigned.
  • Contributes to departmental strategic planning, annual goal setting, assessment initiatives, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Serves on University committees and working groups as assigned by the Vice Provost for Standards and Resolution.
  • Attends and actively participates in programs, initiatives, trainings, and events sponsored or supported by the Office of Student Conduct and Professionalism.




Other duties as assigned:

  • Performs additional duties, special projects, and assignments as directed by the Vice Provost for Standards and Resolution.
