Job Summary

Assistant level:

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach assists coaches in all aspects of the annual strength program. Provides professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.  This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising year-long strength and conditioning programs as designated by the immediate supervisor.

Associate level: 

The Associate Sports Performance Coach assists in all aspects of complex strength and conditioning programs for the athletic programs.  This role provides professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor. 

Core Responsibilities

Assistant level:

  1. Assists in all aspects of assigned athletic programs.

  2. Designs, implements, and supervises the year-long strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

  3. Aids in supervision of the athletic weight room.

  4. Aids in supervision of Graduate Assistants, Interns, and Work Study Students.

  5. Aids in the cleanliness and upkeep of the athletic weight room and equipment.

  6. Travels with designated sport team or teams when in-season.

  7. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.

  8. Communicates with the sport coach or coaches daily.

  9. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Associate level: 

  1. Designs, implements, and supervises the year-long strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

  2. Serves as the second in command of the Strength and Conditioning department; assists in all aspects of assigned athletic programs.

  3. Aids in the supervision of the athletic weight room and staff.

  4. Assumes role as internship coordinator (interview and hire interns each semester) as well as work-study coordinator.

  5. Aids in the internship development program. 

  6. Assists in oversight of annual budget in conjunction with supervisor.

  7. Coordinates weight room schedule with sports coach's practice times and student-athlete academic schedules.

  8. Aids in the cleanliness and upkeep of the athletic weight room and equipment.

  9. Travels with designated sports teams or teams when in-season.

  10. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.

  11. Communicates with sports coaches or coaches daily.

  12. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor.

  13. Aids in the search for new strength and conditioning staff members.

  14.  Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

Assistant level:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.

  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certification 
  • Nationally Accredited Certification as required by the NCAA
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Holds Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) Certification or Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (CSCCa-SCCC)

Associate level: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience.

  • CPR and First Aid Certification  
  • Holds Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) Certification or Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (CSCCa-SCCC)

  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
