Position Summary:

The Instructional Designer III uses knowledge of quality youth development programming and skills of instructional design and multimedia development as a professional to help shape curricular content into coherent instructional modules that employ multimedia and a variety of interactive, web-based tools aimed at encouraging the engagement of volunteer, staff, and youth learners in knowledge acquisition. Demonstrates a high degree of collaboration and diplomacy as well as problem analysis and creative solutions. Solves complex content or delivery-related issues in collaboration with technical teams. Normally receives little direction for ongoing course development assignments.

Through 4-H, kids find their spark, build real-world skills, and become resilient, adaptable, lifelong learners.

We welcome youth ages 5 to 18 and adult volunteers to join and become part of the largest youth development program in the nation. California 4-H is delivered in every county through the UC Cooperative Extension offices.

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

The home department is the CA State 4-H Office. While this position normally is based in Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements for applicants living in the State of California at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.

Pay Scale: $71,931.60/year to $99,952.56/year

Key Responsibilities:

50%

Applies professional instructional design skills to manage projects, including work with content experts (SME), design courses, apply learning objectives/outcomes, course evaluation, and select appropriate technologies and tools to achieve educational goals.

15%

Deploys and manages content and learner progress on learning management platforms. Resolves issues and prepares reports as required.

20%

Provides support for testing content and tools to meet ADA requirements, research and document copyright for embedded media and other non-SME-created content.

10%

Works in a collaborative manner with others in a diverse environment and at all levels in the organization to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis, develop recommendations and to seek out knowledge of new and emerging learning technologies.

5%

Engages volunteers to serve as a localization translation team when courses are developed for non-English speakers/readers.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
• Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
• Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
• Thorough knowledge of quality youth development programming and practices.
• Thorough knowledge of adult volunteers as learners.
• Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of Articulate as the design tool, and Canvas or similar (e.g. Moodle, Campus Extension) as the platform, required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
• Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems.
• Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies.
• Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to course development (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
• Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must possess a valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed; proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
• If working with youth: Must comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
• The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
• As of January 1, 2014, ANR is a smoke- and tobacco-free environment in which smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes), are strictly prohibited.
