Position Summary:

The Community Education Specialist II coordinates educational programming, demonstration agriculture, volunteer engagement, community outreach, and site operations supporting the Living Loop initiative. The position integrates Small Farms, Community Nutrition and Health, Master Gardener, Compost Education, and 4-H programming to deliver hands-on education in healthy food systems, sustainable agriculture, composting, and climate resilience.

This position is open to internal ANR employees only. It is a career appointment that is 75% variable.

Pay Scale: $27.63/hour to $36.73/hour

Key Responsibilities:

30%

Educational Program Coordination:

• Coordinate and conduct Soil-to-Supper school field trips with local schools at Martial Cottle Park Living Loop program educational sites.
• Coordinate and host Community Farm Workdays at community farm at Martial Cottle Park.
• Support Climate-Friendly Farmer Series to encourage implementing climate smart agriculture practices.
• Coordinate volunteers and registrations for Soil-to-Supper school field trips and Community Farm workdays.

Demonstration Farm Operations

• Maintain demonstration plots for the Living Loop program educational sites at Martial Cottle Park.
• Prepare educational sites for lessons, activities, and workdays.
• Coordinate irrigation, compost and crop production with partners and other UCCE staff members with programs at Marital Cottle Park.

Volunteer & Partner Coordination

• Coordinate with Master Gardeners, Compost Education volunteers, 4-H and partners in implementing collaborative programming at Martial Cottle Park.
• Assist with volunteer training at the Living Loop program educational sites.

Outreach & Communications

• Develop educational materials for Soil-to-Supper field trips and Community Farm Workdays.

• Community outreach to local neighborhoods, schools, and other places people gather in the community to inform about the community garden and education opportunities at Martial Cottle Park.
• Communicate with partners to register for events and activities at Martial Cottle Park.

Administration & Evaluation

• Maintain records for the Living Loop grant.
• Collect evaluation data to report to the sponsor.
• Support corresponding grant reporting and purchasing.

Requirements:

• Associate degree in related area and /or equivalent experience / training.
  
  
• Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.
  
  
• Working knowledge of delivering community educational programs.
  
  
• Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.
  
  
• Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  
  
• Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
  
  
• Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.
  
  

Preferred Skills:

• Working knowledge of current community education programs and trends.
  
  
• Working skills to produce and deliver programs.
  
  

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
  
  
• Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
  
  
• The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.

Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
  
  
• Misconduct Disclosure Requirement: As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts an offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of substantiated misconduct with a previous employer.
