
Assistant Professor, Academic Clinician in Medical Physics
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise in the specific area of adaptive therapy, advanced imaging, scripting, or FLASH (ultra-high dose rate) therapy will be preferred. Demonstration of clinical translation of research/new technology is essential. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree. ABR board eligibility or certification in therapeutic radiological physics is required. ABR board certification is expected within the first two years of completing residency.
Teaching responsibilities may include the teaching and training of radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents and medical physics graduate students in our CAMPEP accredited medical physics residency and graduate degree programs..
Clinical responsibilities may include supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, such as linac-based radiation therapy, online adaptive therapy (ETHOS), brachytherapy, proton therapy, etc. at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and satellite facilities.
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and medical physics students. Penn Medicine delivers a broad range of radiation therapy services to its patients, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, online adaptivetherapy (ETHOS) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT using Gamma Knife /Varian Linac). Patients will also have access to proton therapy at the Roberts Proton Therapy Center, housing the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, comprising four gantry treatment rooms and one fixed beam room. Two additional proton rooms with FLASH capabilities are slated to open in mid 2027 at the Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital. Penn is a world leader in proton FLASH research with the first conformal FLASH clinical trial planned this year. Penn Radiation Oncology is not only committed to delivering high-quality radiation therapy, but also to enhancing and improving upon the patient experience by providing a full range of clinical services.
