Military & Veteran Services Coordinator Job Description: Are you passionate about helping military-connected students navigate their path to a degree? Champlain College is seeking a Military & Veteran Services Coordinator to lead the institution's support for its veteran and military-connected students, from their first inquiry as a prospective student through graduation. As the College's School Certifying Official (SCO), this position ensures that every eligible service member, veteran, and dependent receives the education benefits they've earned, while keeping the College in full compliance with federal and state requirements.
This role is both a compliance function and a student-facing one. You'll manage the certification and awarding of VA education benefits and military tuition assistance, serve as the College's point of contact for VA audits and Department of Defense reporting, and counsel military-connected students on the benefits available to them. You'll also be a visible advocate for this community, representing the College at recruitment and fundraising events and helping shape policies that make Champlain more military-friendly across departments.
This position reports to the Director of Student Accounts and offers a hybrid work arrangement, with some weekend commitments to support recruitment and community events. Remote work arrangement considered for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities Benefits Certification & Compliance
- Manage enrollment verification, certification, and awarding of veteran education benefits and military tuition assistance
- Complete VA audits, military surveys, and documentation related to institutional eligibility for VA and Department of Defense programs
- Administer billing and reconciliation for Military Tuition Assistance and VA education benefits, including receipting and refund processing
Student & Community Engagement
- Counsel veterans, service members, and eligible dependents on available military and veteran benefits
- Promote the College's services for veterans at recruitment and fundraising events, partnering with the Admissions team
- Manage productive relationships with veteran-related agencies and organizations
Institutional Collaboration
- Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of all military education benefits and programs
- Collaborate with departments across the College to develop and refine military-friendly policies and procedures
- Educate other departments on policies that affect their areas of work
- Support the broader Student Accounts team with additional duties as needed
Requirements - Two or more years of related military experience with working knowledge of Veteran Education Benefits
- In-depth knowledge of (or ability to quickly develop expertise in) VA Education Programs, the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Vermont National Guard Tuition Benefit Program, and the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Comfort working independently while managing compliance-driven, deadline-sensitive processes
- Veteran status preferred
Working Arrangements - Full-time, hybrid position based at our main campus in Burlington, VT. Remote work arrangement considered for the right candidate.
- Some weekend availability required to support recruitment and fundraising events
- Standard business hours with occasional evening or weekend commitments for special events
Compensation & Benefits - Annual Salary: $52,000 - $55,000
