Summary of Responsibilities
- Preparing, repairing, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces on plaster, drywall, concrete, wood, and other building materials.
- Applying paints, stains, sealants, coatings, and specialty finishes to protect and enhance university facilities.
- Patching, sanding, mudding, taping, texturing, and repairing walls and surfaces to ensure professional-quality results.
- Installing and repairing cabinets, countertops, wall coverings, shelving, whiteboards, decorative finishes, and other facility features.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of floor coverings, including carpet, tile, vinyl, laminate, wood, rubber, and composite materials.
- Operating specialized equipment such as airless sprayers, scaffolding, and motorized lifts to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Supporting campus maintenance efforts through additional work involving upholstery, signage, and related facility improvement projects.
- Promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement while maintaining tools, equipment, and supplies.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduated with a standard high school diploma or the equivalent, plus one (1) year of painting experience.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications: - Graduated with a standard high school diploma or the equivalent, plus three (3) to five (5) years of painting experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge- Knowledge of painting systems, coatings, stains, sealers, and finishing materials, including proper application methods and surface preparation techniques.
- Knowledge of building maintenance practices, construction materials, and industry standards related to painting and finishing trades.
- Knowledge of drywall, plaster, wood, concrete, and other surface repair techniques.
- Knowledge of flooring materials, installation methods, and repair procedures for carpet, tile, vinyl, laminate, wood, and other floor coverings.
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, building codes, and standard trade practices.
Skills- Skill in painting, drywall repair, texturing, wood refinishing, decorative finishes, and general building maintenance.
- Skill in preparing, repairing, and finishing interior and exterior building surfaces to professional standards.
- Skill in installing, maintaining, and repairing floor and wall covering systems.
- Skill in the safe operation of painting equipment, hand tools, power tools, lifts, and related maintenance equipment.
- Skill in color matching, coating application, caulking, sealing, and finish restoration.
- Skill in evaluating project requirements, selecting appropriate materials, and determining effective repair solutions.
- Basic computer proficiency and effective customer service skills.
Abilities- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders to complete projects accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to safely use tools, equipment, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms required for painting and maintenance activities.
- Ability to match, restore, and apply coatings that maintain the appearance and integrity of existing surfaces.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow, enforce, and promote workplace safety standards and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while providing excellent service to the campus community.
