BRIDGES Instructor (PT)


SUNY Orange is seeking a dynamic and student-centered part-time BRIDGES Instructor to support an inclusive postsecondary education program on the Newburgh campus. This position is designed for an educator who is passionate about inclusive teaching and supporting College students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in developing academic, career readiness, social and community engagement skills.

The Instructor will teach two courses and co-teach one additional course, with a particular focus on Community Enrichment and Career Readiness, while working collaboratively with program staff and College faculty to create an engaging, inclusive and age-appropriate College learning experience.

The successful candidate will have a strong educational background and demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction while maintaining high expectations for student participation, growth, independence, self-determination, career development, and meaningful community engagement.

Job Requirements:

Education Required: Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Experience Required: At least two years of experience teaching, instructing, or providing educational support to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a school, transition, postsecondary, or other educational setting.

Must have reliable transportation to and from the College campuses and other sites as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Special Education, Inclusive Education, Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Adult Education, or a closely related educational field.
  • New York State teaching certification or other recognized teaching credential..
  • Experience teaching students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with transition-age students or young adults.
  • Experience in a Community College, College, University, transition program, or inclusive postsecondary education program.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating community enrichment, career readiness, career exploration, or employment-preparation programming.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning, and inclusive educational practices.
  • Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, instructional activities, and student learning assessments.
  • Experience supporting self-determination, self-advocacy, executive functioning, community engagement, career exploration, and workplace readiness.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, employers, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and in an accessible manner.
  • Bilingual skills.

Salary: $25 - $28 per hour, approximately 15 hours per week. This position is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds.
