Job Summary

 

Assist the Head Softball Coach in leading, operating, and managing all aspects of a competitive and academically successful NCAA Division II Women's Softball Program at Georgia College & State University (GCSU), the state's designated Public Liberal Arts University, in accordance with the University System of Georgia, GCSU, Peach Belt Conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with recruiting, practice planning, player instruction, game strategy, academic monitoring, and community and fundraising engagement. This position requires effective engagement with students, faculty, staff, the greater Milledgeville/Baldwin County community, GCSU alumni, and supports GCSU's commitment to recruiting and retaining high-achieving student-athletes consistent with the university's selective admissions standards.

Responsibilities

 

Coaching & Student-Athlete Development - 30%
- Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and directing all practices, competitions, and player development activities for the softball program.
- Provide position-specific instruction and technical coaching to student-athletes to develop skills, strategy, and game readiness.
- Assist in developing and implementing game strategies, team preparation, and opponent scouting reports.
- Assist in ensuring student-athlete and program compliance with University System of Georgia, GCSU, Peach Belt Conference, and NCAA rules and policies.
- Support student-athlete holistic wellness and academic success.

Student-Athlete Recruiting - 30%
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet Georgia College & State University's selective admissions standards and contribute to the competitiveness of the softball program.
- Maintain ongoing communication with prospective student-athletes and their families throughout the recruitment process.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and regulations, including successful completion of the annual NCAA recruiting certification test.

Field Maintenance - 15%
- Assist with routine field maintenance pre/post practice and pre/post-game. 
- Work cooperatively with Baseball program and Facilities Operations.

Other Duties - 10%
- Assist with the organization and administration of softball camps and clinics in accordance with GCSU policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Softball Coach or Director of Athletics.

Community Relations, Fundraising, and Game Operations - 15%
- Assist in building community support for the softball program through engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the greater Milledgeville/Baldwin County community.
- Support fundraising initiatives and external relations efforts in coordination with the Head Coach and the Office of University Advancement.
- Serve as game manager for assigned athletic events as directed by the Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications

 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Required Experience
One year of collegiate coaching experience or having played at least one year of collegiate or professional softball. Collegiate or high school coaching and/or equivalent playing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Experience
- Assistant or head coaching experience at the NCAA Division II level or equivalent. 
- Demonstrated record of successful student-athlete recruitment.
- Experience providing or coordinating academic support services for student-athletes.

Proposed Salary

 

The minimum salary is $34,000.00. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across a range of constituencies.
- Strong organizational skills to manage recruiting, scheduling, and administrative responsibilities.
- Leadership skills that student-athletes will want to follow.
