Salary Range: 

Librarian: Starting $53,196 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Senior Librarian: Starting $60,918 annualized with flexibility, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The UT San Antonio Libraries seek a Business and Data Analysis Librarian who demonstrates enthusiasm and creativity in a rapidly changing information environment. This position plays a key role in supporting the institution's teaching and research missions by serving as a relationship-centered liaison to the Alvarez College of Business, providing data-informed business research support, delivering course-integrated instruction and workshops for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research teams, and developing collections that support business disciplines.

The Business and Data Analysis Librarian designs, teaches, and assesses in-person, online, and hybrid workshops, instruction sessions, tutorials, research guides, and reusable learning resources that strengthen business research, data literacy, analytical reasoning, data visualization, and responsible AI and data-use practices. This position collaborates with faculty to develop online instructional content and assessments and provides consultations on applied data workflows, including research question refinement, data source selection, analysis planning, visualization strategies, reproducible research practices, and effective communication of research findings.

Core Responsibilities

Librarian

1. Contributes to the development and assessment of library programs, policies, and services to promote efficient, effective operations aligned with library and institutional goals. 

2. Plays an active role in developing procedures for the operations of the university library.

3. Stays informed of current research and trends in the field, new technologies, and professional knowledge to proactively evolve library services and introduce new and relevant programs.

4. Develops and oversees departmental projects to support goals and objectives, ensuring the library effectively serves UT San Antonio's educational and informational needs.

5. Gathers and analyzes data to improve services, make evidence-based decisions, and enhance user experience and engagement.

6. Works collaboratively and productively with colleagues, staff from other library units, and other university departments and offices.

7. May be responsible for the supervision of staff, including hiring, training, work assignment, planning, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development

8. Serves as a Libraries liaison to the UT San Antonio departments and the community. 

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Librarian 

1. Develops and evaluates library programs, policies, and services to ensure efficient and effective library services that align and support the library and institutional goals.

2. Develops policies and procedures for the operations of the university library.  Interprets policy, manages complex issues, and establishes the framework for consistent, high-quality library service.

3. Stays informed of current research and trends in the field, new technologies, and professional knowledge to proactively evolve library services and introduce new and relevant programs.

4. Develops and manages projects to enhance library services, improve operational efficiency, and meet the evolving informational and educational needs of the university.   Provides guidance, mentorship, and directions to other library staff and project teams. 

5. Analyzes and interprets data to improve services, make evidence-based decisions, and enhance user experience and engagement.  Reports on trends and patterns to library leadership to support data-based decisions and strategic planning.

6. Works collaboratively and productively with colleagues, staff from other library units, and other university departments and offices.  

7. Manages staff, including hiring, training, work assignment, planning, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development.

8. Serves as a liaison between the UT San Antonio departments and the community. Serves as a mentor to other librarians.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Librarian

• ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science.

• Experience working in a library or information environment. 
• This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Senior Librarian 

• Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science

• Three years' experience in the related field

Preferred Qualifications

Both levels

• Experience working in an academic library setting.
• Degree or coursework in a business field or data analysis.
• Ability to identify, build, cultivate, and sustain relationships with multiple stakeholders including library colleagues, campus partners, and faculty.
• Demonstrated ability to provide creative and innovative learning experiences through the application of appropriate pedagogies and educational technologies.
• Experience using or teaching specialized business, financial, market, economic, demographic, consumer, entrepreneurship, open, or proprietary data resources, including licensed subscription platforms, government sources, or open data environments.
• Proficiency in, or the ability to develop proficiency in, one or more tools used for data analysis, visualization, dashboarding, or reproducible research, such as Excel, SQL, R, Python, Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SPSS, Stata, or comparable platforms.

Working Conditions

• Office Environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.  After-hours and weekend work are required occasionally.  

Physical Demands

• Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary; if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.  

This position will work both on campus and remotely in Texas. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
