The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy invites applications for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Research. The position will contribute to the College's teaching, clinical practice, service, and scholarly missions, with primary teaching responsibilities in the Pharmacy Practice and Care Process (PPCP)/Integrated Pharmacy Laboratory (IPL) sequence, Capstone courses, and other clinical courses within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum as needed.

The successful candidate will establish and maintain a clinical practice site in a clinic or ambulatory care setting that supports the expansion of pharmacist-provided patient care services, particularly for rural, underserved, and marginalized populations. The faculty member will also engage in service to the Department, College, University, profession, and community and pursue scholarly activities related to clinical practice, pharmacy education, community engagement, health disparities, or other areas aligned with the faculty member's expertise and interests.

The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. This is a full-time, academic year, non-tenure-track, limited, renewable appointment, with continuation contingent upon successful performance review and programmatic needs.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Mentorship

• Deliver instruction and facilitate active learning in the Pharmacy Practice and Care Process (PPCP)/Integrated Pharmacy Laboratory (IPL) sequence (I-V).
• Lead and support skills-based education, including patient counseling and communication, prescription processing and clinical decision-making, drug information and medication therapy management, sterile and non-sterile compounding, physical assessment, and point-of-care skills.
• Contribute to Capstone courses through case-based instruction, simulation activities, student assessment, course coordination, and activities designed to prepare students for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) and contemporary pharmacy practice.
• Deliver instruction in other required and elective clinical courses within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum based on departmental and programmatic needs and the faculty member's areas of expertise.
• Facilitate recitations, simulations, case-based learning activities, and interprofessional education experiences.
• Assess student performance through skills-based assessments, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), written assignments, care plans, and other appropriate assessment methods.
• Provide timely feedback, remediation, coaching, and mentorship to support student development and professional growth.
• Contribute to course and curricular assessment, continuous quality improvement, and curriculum development.
• Oversee and mentor Teaching Assistants, pharmacy residents, and other learners assigned to relevant courses and educational activities.
• Precept Doctor of Pharmacy students completing experiential education rotations.
  
  

Clinical Practice and Professional Service

• Establish and maintain a high-quality clinical practice site in collaboration with a partnering clinic or healthcare organization.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate pharmacist-provided patient care services designed to improve medication use, health outcomes, and access to care.
• Provide direct patient care services within the scope of pharmacist practice and applicable state laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, community health workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide patient-centered, team-based care.
• Support initiatives designed to expand access to pharmacist-provided services for rural, underserved, marginalized, and other populations experiencing barriers to healthcare.
• Develop a clinical practice environment that provides opportunities for student pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and other health professions learners.
• Contribute professional expertise to community organizations, healthcare partners, professional associations, and other external stakeholders as appropriate.
  
  

Scholarship

• Develop and maintain a program of scholarly activity consistent with the expectations of a non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor.
• Pursue internal and external funding opportunities to support clinical practice innovation, pharmacy education, community-engaged initiatives, healthcare access, health equity, or other areas aligned with the faculty member's expertise and interests.
• Disseminate scholarly work through peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, reports, educational scholarship, or other appropriate scholarly products.
• Collaborate with faculty, students, healthcare professionals, and community partners on scholarly and grant-funded initiatives.
  
  

College, University, and Professional Service

• Participate in departmental, College, and University governance and service activities, including appointment to standing and ad hoc committees.
• Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in faculty meetings, strategic planning activities, student recruitment, and other activities supporting the missions of the Department and College.
• Engage in service to professional organizations, healthcare organizations, community partners, or other external organizations as appropriate.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to advance the teaching, practice, service, and scholarly missions of the College.
  
  

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

1. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited college or university.

2. Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency.

3. Minimum of three years of pharmacy practice experience.

4. Licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in Rhode Island.

5. Experience providing direct patient care and applying the Pharmacists' Patient Care Process.

6. Experience precepting student pharmacists or other health professions learners.

7. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, healthcare professionals, community partners, and interprofessional teams.

9. Demonstrated effective teaching, presentation, and facilitation skills.

10. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse populations and fostering inclusive learning and clinical practice environments.

PREFERRED:
1. Prior didactic, laboratory, or experiential teaching experience in a Doctor of Pharmacy or other health professions program.

2. Experience providing care to rural, underserved, marginalized, or other populations experiencing barriers to healthcare.

3. Experience providing pharmacist services under a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA) or other collaborative patient care model.

4. Experience coordinating courses, laboratory sequences, simulations, or large-scale student assessments.

5. Evidence of scholarly productivity or demonstrated potential for scholarly contributions.

6. Experience developing, implementing, expanding, or evaluating pharmacist-provided patient care services.

7. APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certification or willingness to obtain certification.
