Registered Nurse (Part-Time or Per Diem)

Primary Purpose:
The Operating Room (OR)/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients before, during, and immediately after surgical procedures. The OR/PACU Nurse collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.

Essential Functions:
  • Contribute to OR/PACU workflow, policy, and patient care protocol development and implementation.
  • Assess patients prior to surgery and review medical histories, laboratory results, and surgical consents.
  • Supports the operating room, equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Serve as a circulating nurse during surgical procedures, or scrub nurse if needed.
  • Document patient care, surgical events, and procedural outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and recovery expectations.
  • Comply with ASC policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures and respond to emergencies.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention protocols.
  • Support teaching, mentoring, and interprofessional education initiatives.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Provide care with a diverse patient population.
  • Provide staff coverage as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current RN license in the state of California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced. Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification.
  • One (1) year of full-time general nursing care experience in an OR and/or PACU.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience preferred but not required for strong candidates with relevant surgical or procedural experience.
  • Supplemental courses or continuing education credits in patient management and surgical techniques desirable.


Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Physically able to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and maintain body positions for long periods of time.
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Use of office equipment, phones, fax, email.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or instruments.
  • Ability to hear, see, and speak.
  • Regular lifting and moving of equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, move equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to lift, turn, reposition, and transfer patients safely, with or without assistive devices.
  • Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.


Working Conditions:
  • This position is Monday through Friday on a part time or per diem basis.
  • Work is performed in the private office setting and all clinical areas of the ASC.
  • OSHA Category I - high exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Some risk of injury from equipment or patient movement.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals; PPE required.
  • Continuous multi-tasking skills required.
  • Significant contact with staff/co-workers, students, residents, patients and their families, other employers, physicians, and their office staff, local hospital team members, and other members of the health care community.


Hiring Range: $44.00 - $50.00 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
