_________________________________________________________________________The Assistant Professor & Assistant Dean in the School of Architecture (SOA) is a senior university administrator reporting directly to the Dean and is responsible for managing specific administrative operations, including faculty affairs, academic programs, and student services. The Assistant Dean will also teach architecture and/or construction science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses within his/her area of specialization.
The successful candidate should demonstrate experience in writing and presenting on architecture or construction management technical issues, with an emphasis on construction practices, sustainability, and industry applications. Also should be experienced with the accreditation process with the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB) and the Accreditation and the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE.)
The salary is determined in accordance with the University's compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position. Responsibilities:- Manage budgets, direct staff, implement policies, and represent the Dean as required.
- Support curriculum development and program quality.
- Address student academic and behavioral issues.
- Promote student success and retention initiatives.
- Assist with faculty hiring, promotion, tenure, mentoring, and personnel actions.
- Support research initiatives, grant activities, and college-wide projects.
- Teach a minimum of two (2) courses each semester.
- Perform university, professional, and community service, and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience: - Terminal degree in Architecture, Construction Science, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Teaching experience should include instruction in architecture and/or construction-related areas such as design studios, architecture culture and history, sustainability, construction operations, management techniques, scheduling, estimating, surveying, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and related industry practices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Demonstrated administrative or leadership experience in an academic setting, such as program department head, or director, to manage academic programs, faculty affairs, and student-related matters.
- Knowledge of architecture, construction science, and construction management principles and practices.
- Knowledge of accreditation processes and standards relevant to architecture and/or construction programs, including agencies such as National Architectural Accrediting Board and American Council for Construction Education.
- Evidence of effective communication, strategic planning, and organizational management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators, industry partners, and external stakeholders.
- Records of scholarly, creative, professional, and/or industry accomplishments appropriate to the discipline.
- Commitment to student success, shared governance, and academic excellence.
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators, industry partners, and external stakeholders.
- Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of industry-standard software and technologies used in architecture, and construction operations.
- Ability to support research initiatives, grants, and special projects.
- Ability to coordinate studios with technical courses and assist students in preparation for professional careers.
Preferred Qualifications:- Terminal degree in Architecture (Ph.D.), Construction Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or related disciplined
- Master's degree and Ph.D. in architecture, construction science, construction management, or engineering preferred.
- Ten (10) years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in architecture or the construction industry preferred.
- Professional experience demonstrating management of the design process or construction projects.
- Experience addressing project design issues, energy efficiency, sustainability, and public infrastructure.
- Broad portfolio of professional work. LEED Accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Construction Project Management certifications, or OSHA Safety certifications preferred.
- Record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or professional recognition.
- Knowledge of BIM and related software platforms, including Rhino/Grasshopper, Revit/Dynamo, Navis Works, SketchUp, and AutoCAD.
