ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, STUDENT AFFAIRS / COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Position Summary:
The associate director of student affairs is responsible for assisting in the overall administration and management of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) within the Covenant Healthcare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University. The associate director also has responsibility for the coordination and operation of the daily activities and events for the OSA. This position serves as the primary day-to-day contact for all medical students requiring assistance, information, and support from the OSA, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. This position is also responsible for understanding student affairs issues from a broad perspective, actively participating in the development of new programs, identifying challenges and opportunities, and proactively developing and implementing strategic solutions. The associate director creates long- and short-term action plans that advance the college’s priorities around OSA-specific programs, coordinates the annual OSA calendar for projects and events, sets the weekly office workflow, assigns tasks, and monitors progress on office projects and responsibilities to ensure OSA goals are being met. In addition, this position is responsible for all duties associated with student engagement and wellbeing, integrated throughout all four years. The associate director has a high degree of autonomy and represents the associate dean of student affairs in their absence.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, psychology, or a related field.
Three years of experience in student affairs or in a field related to higher education.
Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and initiatives.
Effective communication skills across varied platforms and audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on student-centered services.
Ability to resolve concerns and manage conflict with a high degree of satisfaction.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs and coordinate events.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and orient between tasks with ease.
Demonstrated high professional and ethical standards, and the ability to handle confidential or sensitive information.
Ability to act independently to effectively address and triage emergent and more immediate student concerns.
Demonstrated ability to build positive working relations with individuals at all levels within an academic institution and commitment to a team-oriented culture.
Ability to travel to CMED regional and distributed campuses and sites, which can include some evenings and weekends.
Ability to be accessible in the evenings, on occasional weekends, and during university closures.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferably in education, psychology, or a related field.
Five years of student affairs or related higher education experience.
Demonstrated experience interpreting institutional, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Demonstrated experience with medical school student affairs.
Demonstrated experience with student engagement and wellness program planning and execution.
Advanced understanding of best practices and professional mandates relating to student affairs administration.
Familiarity with medical program curricula and the demands of medical education on student performance.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides high-level support to the associate dean of student affairs and represents the associate dean in their absence.
Serves as the primary day-to-day contact for all M1/M2 students requiring assistance, information, and support from the office.
Creates, maintains, and disseminates the annual calendar of projects and events. This includes setting the weekly office workflow, assigning tasks, along with monitoring progress and weekly email communication.
Serves as the project manager for the following significant student events: M1 Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, and Graduation.
Develops, manages, and coordinates student engagement programming specifically pertaining to Student Interest Groups (SIGs), Medial Student Councils (MSCs), Student Senate, and student-led committees. This includes serving as the advisor for these groups and providing leadership training.
Oversees student elections and maintains a current list of active participants in student leadership.
Responsible for all student programming needs in areas of engagement, belonging, and wellness for all four years including budgets, outcomes assessments, advertising, scheduling, volunteer opportunities and reporting.
Implements plans for monitoring the effectiveness of activities and relation to OSA goals and objectives.
Responsible for the maintenance, creation, and oversite of all print and online materials for the OSA. This includes but is not limited to the CMED Student Handbook, Student Leadership Handbook/Manuals (SIGS, MSCS, Senate, and committees), brochures, handouts, slides, social media, website, flyers, and weekly communications.
Acts as Liaison between the OSA, main campus entities, community groups, and other clinical sites.
Works independently or with a team to triage and effectively resolve student concerns/issues. This work encompasses activities across the distributed campuses which in addition to Mt. Pleasant includes Saginaw, Detroit, and Midland.
Responsible for policy creation, review, and dissemination as it pertains to student engagement and wellness for M1/M2 medical students.
Responsible for the development and management of budgets for special projects, student engagement, and wellness activities for medical students.
Assists with the creation and review of the OSA budget.
Develops objectives/content and delivers educational lectures for all CMED students during student orientations, bridge week sessions, workshops, and engagement, belonging, and wellness programming.
Provides resources and references for students to other sources of information and assistance on campus and in the local communities.
Establishes and maintains efficient data collection systems and implements new technologies to generate required reports.
Assists in the daily oversite of front office staff, including training, scheduling, professional development, and triaging concerns.
Manages student pre-matriculation requirements, compliance requirements (HIPPA, Immunizations, mandatory trainings), and the development and dissemination of resources for M1/M2 students.
Visits the distributed campuses for student engagement and wellness activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
