Job Description Summary:
The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (OSEL) Manager serves as a student affairs professional responsible for the comprehensive coordination, advising, and oversight of student organizations, leadership development, and operational functions that support student engagement. This role exercises a high level of independent judgment and autonomy in managing the full lifecycle of registered student organizations, including advising, compliance, training, and organizational development. The position provides intentional guidance, education, and support to student leaders and organizations through workshops, coaching, and structured training programs that promote leadership development, effective governance, and responsible resource management. In addition, the manager oversees front desk student employees, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management, ensuring a high-functioning and student-centered service environment. As a key member of the Student Affairs team, this role integrates administrative systems with student development practices, contributing to divisional initiatives, assessment efforts, and strategies that enhance student success, engagement, and belonging.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience advising student organizations and facilitating leadership development.
  • Demonstrate understanding of student engagement, leadership development, and higher education administration.
  • Ability to design and deliver training programs, workshops, and educational initiatives.
  • Experience advising student organizations and supporting leadership development.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and managing student staff.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management, university systems, and administrative best practices.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and regulations in a university setting
  • Capacity for systems-level thinking, process improvement, and data-driven decision- making.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in DocuSign, Campus Labs Engage, Microsoft Office Suite, SLATE, and web
    content management systems.
  • Knowledge of higher education student programming.
  • Masters in Higher Education or in pursuit of degree.

Specific Duties:
Duty: Student Organization Advisement, Development & Oversight


  • Serve as the primary advisor and operational lead for all registered student organizations, exercising independent judgment in organizational oversight, compliance, financial processes, and leadership development. Serves as the primary university authority on student organization operations, advising, compliance, and leadership development within OSEL.

  • Provide ongoing advising and coaching to student leaders on leadership development, organizational effectiveness, risk management, event planning, and decision-making.

  • Develop and facilitate trainings, workshops, and educational resources on topics such as leadership skills, financial responsibility, event planning, and organizational transitions.

  • Oversee the onboarding process for new student organization which includes training and completion of requirements to be a recognized student organization.

  • Manage and oversee the onboarding process for new student organizations, including the development and delivery of required training, verification of compliance requirements, and approval of recognition status in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.

  • Guide organizations through problem-solving, conflict resolution, and organizational challenges, using student development frameworks.

  • Manage and oversee student organization financial processes, including funding allocations, purchasing, and documentation, ensuring accountability and compliance.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student organization success and expand engagement opportunities.

  • Assess student organization effectiveness and training outcomes to improve programs and services. Design and facilitate leadership development workshops and training for student organizations.

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Campus Labs Engage, overseeing system operations, user access, and issue resolution.

  • Apply student development theory and best practices to advising and program design.

  • Support high-impact student engagement experiences that promote belonging and leadership capacity.

  • Serve as lead coordinator for student organization participation in major institutional programs including Homecoming, Spotlight Weekend, and other large-scale engagement initiatives.

  • Provide education, guidance, and interpretation of institutional policies to student leaders and advisors, supporting responsible expression, safe programming, and adherence to university standards. • Provide on-site leadership and make real-time operational and programmatic decisions during evening and weekend events.

Percentage of Time: 30%

Duty: Front Desk Operations & Student Staff Supervision


  • Directly supervise front desk student staff including hiring, evaluation, and performance management.

  • Make independent decisions regarding staffing, scheduling, and performance issues. Makes independent decisions regarding hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and termination of student staff in accordance with university guidelines.

  • Establish workflows, service expectations, and accountability measures to ensure effective office operations.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop student employees, addressing performance concerns and fostering professional growth.

  • Make independent decisions regarding staffing, scheduling, and daily front desk operations.

Percentage of Time: 15%

Duty: Student Leadership and Administrative Support


  • Provide administrative support and coordination to both the Graduate and Adult Student Government (GASG) and the Associated Students of the University of La Verne (ASULV), ensuring effective operations, fiscal compliance, and alignment with institutional goals.

  • Offer procedural and leadership guidance to student government executive officers related to governance structures, fiscal responsibility, and event coordination.

  • Advise organizational continuity, leadership transitions, and compliance with governing documents and University policies.

  • Oversee and maintain the GASG and ASULV websites and Campus Labs Engage platforms, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with university communication standards.

  • Coordinate student government election processes, including candidate review, ballot preparation, and the dissemination of results in accordance with university policy.

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support for GASG and ASULV operations, including newsletters, purchasing, scheduling, and event logistics.

  • Attend weekly GASG and ASULV meetings to provide advising, continuity, and administrative assistance that advance student leadership effectiveness.

  • Make independent decisions regarding hiring, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary actions for student staff in alignment with university policies.

Percentage of Time: 15%

Duty: Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) Administrative Support


  • Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support for the Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) program.

  • Manage SLATE admissions CMS processes for registrants, including monitoring submissions, addressing technical issues, and resolving student and family concerns.

  • Serve as a primary liaison for SOAR communications, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and coordination with campus partners.

  • Oversee preparation of materials, logistics, and digital content to ensure an efficient and welcoming onboarding experience for new students.

  • Analyze registration data and student feedback to inform future orientation planning and process enhancements.

  • Maintain and regularly update the Orientation website to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and relevance.

Percentage of Time: 10%

Duty: Office Operations, Web, and Engagement Management


  • Provide comprehensive operational and administrative leadership for the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (OSEL), ensuring efficient coordination and alignment of office functions with divisional goals and university priorities.

  • Lead the digital engagement strategy for OSEL’s web presence and online platforms, ensuring content accuracy, accessibility, and consistent alignment with institutional branding and communication standards.

  • Utilize web analytics and digital insights to assess engagement trends, optimize user experience, and enhance the visibility of student programs and resources.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain administrative systems and processes that support strategic initiatives, assessment efforts, and institutional reporting requirements.

  • Integrate student development practices into operational systems to ensure services and processes support student engagement, learning, and leadership outcomes.

  • Collaborate with OSEL professional staff to plan, organize, and execute division-wide initiatives, events, and outreach campaigns that enhance student engagement and leadership development.

Percentage of Time: 10%

Duty: Compliance and Reporting Responsibilities


  • Serve as the primary investigator for student organization-related conduct matters, including alleged violations of university policies related to hazing, student conduct, and organizational activities, ensuring timely, equitable, and consistent resolution in alignment with institutional procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, including Clery Act reporting requirements, hazing prevention policies, and student conduct standards, maintaining accurate documentation and reporting practices.

  • Provide interpretation and guidance on university policies, including demonstration and protest guidelines, risk management expectations, and student organization conduct standards, supporting informed decision-making by student leaders and advisors.

  • Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Student Conduct, Campus Safety, Title IX, and Legal Affairs) to assess, investigate, and resolve complex or high-risk student organization issues.

  • Make determinations and recommendations regarding student organization status, sanctions, or corrective actions, escalating cases as appropriate in accordance with university policy.

Percentage of Time: 10%

Duty: Student Health Insurance Enrollment Support


  • Manage Gallagher Insurance uploads for enrolled students to ensure compliance with university and provider requirements.

  • Coordinate targeted communication campaigns (email and text message reminders) for insurance submissions and key deadlines.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for student insurance inquiries, providing guidance and resolution support.

Percentage of Time: 5%

Duty: Mass Student Communication


  • Oversee the student information mass correspondence distribution process to ensure clear, timely, and effective communication across the University.

  • Develop and implement communication protocols that advance student engagement priorities. • Assess the impact of outreach strategies through analytics and feedback.

  • Serve as the administrative liaison for communication compliance related to mass messaging and brand standards.
