Salary Range: $87,500 - $96,900/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Type: Full Time

Job Details

Job Summary

The Director of Communications oversees the planning, development and execution of comprehensive communication programs that support the institution's strategic priorities. Manages multiple communication initiatives, coordinates cross-functional teams, and ensures that work products are delivered on time, on brand, and aligned with institutional goals. Collaborates with colleagues to maintain a high standard of quality, messaging consistency, and relevance across communications channels.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Writes and edits various communications, including institutional reputation articles, thought leadership documents, and collateral materials to promote the institution, its leadership, its schools, and units.
  2. Develops and manages the execution of large and small-scale communications plans from initial concept through completion.
  3. Serves as lead editor to ensure the quality and continuity of messaging across communications platforms, including publications, web communications, media relations, social media, internal communications, and marketing collateral.
  4. Collaborates with media relations, social media, internal communications, multimedia/digital, and marketing professionals to design, develop, and execute highly impactful storytelling that fosters a positive impression of the university.
  5. Regularly reviews and maintains strategic messaging materials across the institution are regularly reviewed to ensure accuracy and brand standards.
  6. Maintains budgets and timelines related to specific projects.
  7. Oversees and evaluates analytics and impact of communications programs;
  8. Serves as a liaison to communications colleagues from other colleges, divisions, and units.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of related work experience.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary depending on departmental needs.


Physical Demands

  • Sedentary: Up to 10lbs - Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


This position will work both on campus and remotely in Texas. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
