Job Summary

The Assistant Basketball Coach - Non-Recruiting is responsible for on-court coaching, serves as community relations liaison for the basketball program to the public, and monitor academic progress of the student-athletes. This role assists the Head Coach to provide management of the basketball program.



Core Responsibilities
  1. Knowledgeable of and adhere to NCAA and conference rules.

  2. Monitors the satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes and helps arrange for necessary academic counseling through the Athletics Academic Coordinator.

  3. Assists the Head Coach with on-the-floor coaching.

  4. Coordinates Video Productions such as videotaping practice and games, and downloading practice and games on a software program called Just Play.

  5. Organizes scouting reports for coaches and players.

  6. Assists the Head Coach with scheduling of opponents.

  7. Works with the Athletics Administration in matters of public relations and promotions.

  8. Works actively in fundraising for the Athletics Department.

  9. Supports student-athlete development programs and ensures the student-athlete welfare of the team by being respectful.

  10. Coordinates manager and graduate assistant duties.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

  • Three (3) years of related work experience.

  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Compliance of NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Athletic Conference rules and regulations

  • Organizational, Written, and Verbal Communication Skills
  • Independent Judgement
  • Discretion and Flexibility


Working Conditions
  • Office and gymnasium environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.


Physical Demands
  • Physical activity in the sport of basketball, weekend and evening hours, and required travel.


This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
