Department Information
The Department of Mathematics, in addition to serving the mathematical needs of the entire university, offers a broad range of courses designed to prepare students for careers in mathematics-related fields or for advanced study in mathematics, engineering, or mathematics education. The department offers a B.S. in Mathematics, a B.S. in Mathematics with a Teaching Concentration, and a Certificate in Data Science.
Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Georgia College and State University invites applications for a Limited-Term Lecturer position (non-tenure track) in mathematics to begin August 2026 for one academic year. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate mathematics courses, must demonstrate excellence in teaching and have a commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process. The candidate must also have the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower students to succeed.
Responsibilities
Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities
- Full-time instructional load teaching (5 courses) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring Students
- Other teaching responsibilities
Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
Faculty - Professional Development -
Limited term faculty are expected to stay current in their field.
Faculty - Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A minimum of a Master's Degree in mathematics or closely-related field (e.g., mathematics education or statistics) with at least 18 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in mathematics is required.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- a Ph.D. in mathematics or in a closely related field
- two years of higher education teaching experience
- evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies
Proposed Salary
Salary Range $53,000.00 to $55,000.00
