Department: Athletics

Supervisor: Head Women's Volleyball Coach

  • Hours per week: 20 hours a week
  • Stipend/Benefits: Tuition waived up to 24 credits & a $1000 stipend for the academic year.

Role Summary

The Graduate Assistant will assist with coaching, office duties, and other support to the athletic department. This role is designed to provide the student with professional experience in a higher education setting while supporting the operational goals of the department. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can balance their academic workload with the various responsibilities of the coaching role (outlined below).

Housing, Work Hours & Duties
Athletics GA positions may include the option for on-campus housing as part of the tuition compensation package.

  • GAs who choose to live on campus are required to work up to 25 hours per week, reflecting additional responsibilities related to both Athletics and Residence Life.


GAs who do not choose the housing option are required to work up to 20 hours per week, focusing primarily on Athletics-related responsibilities.


Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities

  • Practice: GA will assist during practices and training sessions by running drills, working directly with players, supervising lift sessions, working on physical and mental aspects of the game
  • Recruiting: GA will use various recruiting platforms to compile a list of potential prospective student-athletes for the head coach to reach out to. GA may also be asked to attend games, tournaments, or showcases with or in place of another coach for recruiting opportunities.
  • Film: GA will be responsible for watching through film and taking out highlight clips of our team. GA will also watch film from opposing teams to help create a scouting report.
  • On campus duties: GA is the primary person on campus. GA will attend the weekly athletic staff meetings and any events on campus. GA will take care of any on campus duties, including (but not limited to) volunteering events, Unified sports, team blessing, etc. GA will also assist with the team equipment and apparel, making sure all apparel is ready to be distributed for the season and that uniforms are washed for all games.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Enrollment: Must be currently accepted in a Master program at Albertus Magnus College in one of the following areas:
    1. Accounting (only two spots available)
    2. Business Administration
    3. Criminal Justice
    4. Management and Organizational Leadership
    5. Healthcare Administration (only two spots available)
  • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in [Microsoft Office/Google Workspace].

Learning Outcomes (The "Value Add")

  • Gain hands-on experience in team management, practice planning, recruiting, and balancing physical and mental aspects of the game (related to life in general).
  • Develop mentorship skills through interaction with undergraduate students by helping to provide a safe space for them to perform their best on and off the court.
  • Opportunity to be credited in academic publications or present at conferences.
