About the Role:

The Student - Grounds position is designed to provide hands-on experience in maintaining and enhancing outdoor environments across various properties. This role focuses on supporting the groundskeeping team by performing essential tasks that contribute to the aesthetic appeal and safety of the grounds. The successful candidate will learn to operate basic landscaping equipment, assist with planting, mowing, and general upkeep, and gain valuable knowledge about horticulture and grounds maintenance practices. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students to develop practical skills in a real-world setting while contributing to the upkeep of community or institutional spaces. Ultimately, the role aims to foster a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and teamwork abilities in a supportive and educational environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a student in high school or college.
  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices related to grounds maintenance.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with a team.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or related outdoor work.
  • Familiarity with basic gardening tools and equipment.
  • Interest in horticulture, environmental science, or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with mowing lawns, trimming bushes, and maintaining flower beds to ensure a neat and attractive appearance.
  • Operate and maintain basic groundskeeping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers under supervision.
  • Collect and dispose of debris, leaves, and litter to maintain cleanliness and safety of outdoor areas.
  • Support the planting and watering of flowers, shrubs, and trees as directed by the grounds team.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.


Skills:

The required skills such as physical stamina and the ability to follow safety protocols are essential for performing daily grounds maintenance tasks effectively and safely. Attention to detail ensures that the outdoor spaces are kept clean, orderly, and visually appealing. Communication and teamwork skills facilitate smooth collaboration with supervisors and fellow team members, enhancing productivity and learning opportunities.
