Description

Governors State University, located in University Park, about 30 miles south of the city of Chicago, is looking to fill a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Department of Occupational Therapy, College of Health and Human Services. The candidate will primarily serve as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, teach graduate-level courses, be active in research/creative scholarly activities, and provide service at multiple levels both within the university and outside the university. We welcome candidates who embrace the diversity of our student population and those who understand how to engage non-traditional and traditional students.


Essential Responsibilities

Serve as a faculty member to

  • Maintain a teaching load commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required by CBA
  • Secure and manage Level I and Level II fieldwork placements for students in the MOT program
  • Conduct and publish scholarly work
  • Provide professional service to the university and community
  • Advise students

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Initial certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as an occupational therapist in the state of Illinois
  • Teaching experience or demonstrated potential in teaching at the graduate level
  • Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
  • Demonstrated potential and skills to conduct and publish research.
    1. Applicants for the Associate Professor level will be expected to have a documented record of scholarship consistent with the departmental tenure and promotion requirements 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed (post-professional) doctorate in occupational therapy or a related field
    1. ABD, in the final stage of completion, will be considered with evidence of the degree being awarded before hiring
  • Faculty who can teach a wide range of foundational and research courses in the Master-level and DrOT programs
  • Faculty with experience in Academic Fieldwork Coordinator position
  • Faculty with interest and/or experience in Driver Rehabilitation
  • Faculty who have maintained NBCOT certification as part of their professional development
