Assistant Professor of Science Education (tenure-track)Job Title: Assistant Professor of Science Education (tenure-track) Department: School of EducationReports to: Dean, School of Education Effective Date: July 1, 2026# of Direct Reports: 0 # of People Supported: 0Job Description:The Assistant Professor of Science Education will teach courses in the School of Education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses taught on campus, online, and/or hybrid formats. Primary teaching responsibilities with be in science teaching methods. Applicants must be comfortable teaching science methods courses at the adolescent (Grades 6-12 ) and childhood (Grades 1-6) levels and possibly science methods in Early Childhood. Duties also include the development and dissemination of scholarly work, service to the department, school and university communities, and a commitment to professional growth.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:Teaching - Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in science methods.
- Teach general education courses such as Foundations, Curriculum and Assessment, or Student Teaching seminar as needed.
- Teach 24 credits annually of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in a variety of formats: in-person, hybrid, and online. Reassigned time is available.
Service - Attend department, school, and university meetings and participate in activities and events designed for student recruitment, retention and graduation.
- Participate in accreditation review processes as well as curriculum and program development.
- Participate in service to the department, college, university, and broader community.
Scholarship - Enact a research agenda with consistent productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed presentations, peer-reviewed journal publications, grant activity, and other field appropriate scholarly activity.
Professional Development Engage in various professional development activities and initiatives that contribute to the continuous improvement of one's teaching, service, and scholarship.
Required Skills/Abilities: - Strong knowledge of science taught at the PreK-12 level.
Expertise in curriculum development.
Knowledge of national and state curricular standards and assessments.
Evidence of effective college level teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, preferably in multiple modalities.
Proficient use of learning management systems and technological tools to facilitate teaching and learning.
Evidence of active participation in professional organizations and a commitment to educating diverse learners.
Evidence of prior scholarship or potential for scholarship and research.
QualificationsEducation: EdD or PhD in Science education, or a terminal degree in a related field. ABD may be considered.
Required Experience: Experience in PreK-12 Science teaching.
Preferred Experience - Experience in science teacher preparation, such as teaching instructional methods courses for science teacher candidates and coordinating field teaching practica.
- Evidence of participation in research activities, such as presenting at national or international research conferences or authoring publications.
- Experience in leading or substantively contributing to external grant proposals, such as narrative drafting, collaborator coordination, and submission.
- Experience in data analysis and in data-driven course instruction and educational innovation.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Salary: The annual salary for this position is $63,000 to $74,615
Hours Expectation:Full-time, 35 hours per week
