Job Description:

The Security Officer of Campus Safety is Stationed at the Main Entrance of the University. The Security Officer reports directly to the Director of Campus Safety. The Security Officer will be the first interaction with Campus Safety upon the University's entrance; it is truly a front-facing position. This is a community-facing position that requires engagement with the University's Community and its visitors to create a safe and welcoming environment. This position requires providing direction and answering inquiries, all while observing proper radio etiquette and prioritizing daily tasks, including patrolling while accompanied by another Security Officer.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Answer phone calls and communicate with various University Departments
  • Communicate with the local Police Department, EMS, Fire Department, etc. during an emergency and act as a liaison for the University as required
  • Assist Residence and Student Life with enforcement of hall regulations and Code of Conduct Violations
  • Do routine patrols throughout the Campus, checking for safety issues or concerns
  • Observe and report hazardous conditions to the Director of Campus Safety or their designee
  • Ensure only authorized persons are admitted to the campus while on duty
  • Direct visitors and assist as necessary
  • Enforce campus traffic regulations, including parking, and speeding
  • Enforce campus policies, including smoking, alcohol usage, and drug usage
  • Observe weather conditions on campus and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity to the Director of Campus Safety or their designee
  • May be required to perform incidental custodial and maintenance duties as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service background a plus.
  • Ability to cultivate a positive work environment, relationships, and communication
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well with other University departments
  • Mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in the area of responsibility.
  • Read and understand written instructions and communicate information and ideas in clear and concise written form.
  • Keep all necessary licensure current and valid

Qualifications:
  • Possess a Current Valid NYS Security License
    • Clean, Valid Driver's license
    • CPR and First Aid Training Required
    • Able to complete required training
    • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams

Experience:
  • At least one year of related experience

Physical Requirements:
  • Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Must regularly stand or walk for extended periods of time in all climates.

Hours Expectation:

Part-time, 29 hours or less per week
