The Business Event Coordinator & Content Writer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting strategic events and communications initiatives for the College of Business & Technology (CoBT). This position oversees social media management, advertising, content development, and the creation of key publications, including the monthly newsletter and annual report.
The incumbent plans and coordinates college-wide events, including Executive Forums, Executive-in-Residence programs, Atkinson Honors events, networking events, and other activities for students, alumni, business leaders, and community stakeholders in consultation with the Dean. The position collaborates with the Career Center, Alumni Engagement, University Communications, and external partners to support career-related initiatives and student engagement opportunities.
This position manages event logistics, marketing, communications, and stakeholder engagement activities that support the College's strategic goals and priorities. Occasional in-state travel is required to support events and outreach initiatives.
The position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Business & Technology and requires regular on-site presence during standard business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
Advisory Board & Stakeholder Support - 10%
Provide support to the Dean in managing advisory board meetings, including the CoBT.
Executive Advisory Board, subsidiary committees, and the Dean's Student Advisory Board.
Coordinate meeting planning, attendance, logistics, and communications.
Facilitate student involvement in service projects and other advisory board-related activities.
Assist the Dean in cultivating relationships and securing support for College priorities.
Engage with community members, business leaders, alumni, and stakeholders to support
College initiatives and event planning.
Event Planning & Coordination - 35%
Coordinate and execute special events, including Executive Forums, networking events,
Atkinson Honors, the Business Executive-in-Residence Program, receptions, and other College-sponsored events.
Collaborate with the Dean, University Advancement, Alumni Relations, and other campus partners to support events serving students, alumni, and the business community.
Manage event logistics, including venue selection, catering, advertising, registration, budgets, promotional materials, and event communications.
Provide operational support for events hosted through the Dean's Office, including guest reception, communications, and constituent engagement.
Monitor event timelines and ensure successful execution of all event activities.
Content Creation & Communications - 35%
Plan, write, edit, and distribute the monthly "From the Desk of the Dean" newsletter.
Compile, design, coordinate, and publish the College's annual report.
Manage the College's social media platforms and maintain an active online presence during standard business hours.
Develop content for platforms including the College website, newsletters, social media channels, promotional materials, and other communications.
Gather information and success stories from department chairs, faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders for content development.
Collaborate with University Communications to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies.
Review, edit, and ensure consistency of communications materials representing the College.
Advertising & Recruitment Support - 10%
Collaborate with the Graduate School, Graduate Admissions, University Communications, and other campus partners on targeted advertising and marketing initiatives.
Design, review, proof, and coordinate advertisements and promotional campaigns in consultation with the Dean.
Represent the College at recruitment fairs and outreach events.
Coordinate the selection, ordering, and distribution of promotional items and marketing materials.
Support student recruitment and enrollment efforts through strategic communications and event participation.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
Assist with administrative functions supporting the daily operations of the Dean's Office, including telephone coverage and constituent communications.
Provide general office and operational support as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean in support of College operations, strategic initiatives, and special projects.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Event Management, Journalism, English, or a closely related field or four years of relevant work experience.
