Description

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks to appoint an Assistant or Associate Professor of Philosophy with a specialization in the Ethics of Technology and Artificial Intelligence, beginning August 1, 2027. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with the possibility of tenure for highly qualified applicants.

The position is intended to serve the Philosophy department's graduate and undergraduate programs and to collaborate with larger institutional initiatives addressing the ethical challenges raised by emerging technologies.  

Candidates who are outside of the United States and do not have other non-immigrant visa status will not be sponsored for an H-1B petition.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Requirements for the position are as follows: 

  • an earned doctorate in Philosophy (or a cognate field) by the time of appointment;
  • teaching and professional service experience commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor; 
  • a record of scholarship in the ethics of technology and AI, or related areas of philosophy; 
  • a willingness to pursue interdisciplinary collaboration and appropriate external grant funding.
