Job Summary

This is a one year limited term academic year appointment. This position will instruct academic courses and support the department, college and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the University.

The faculty employee is expected to contribute to the department's educational mission. Faculty will be expected to instruct our students in the respective disciplines at the undergraduate level.

The faculty employee is expected to have:
1. Understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning
2. Strong communication skills and successful higher education teaching experience
3. A developing research agenda
4. Demonstrable ability to teach Survey of Philosophy or Introduction to World Religions
5. Demonstrable ability to design creative, interdisciplinary courses that incorporate primary texts and engage students in the classroom
6. Demonstrable ability to teach writing and discussion intensive classes 7. Demonstrable ability to incorporate different perspectives in a domestic and global context

This position carries a non tenure track status.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing

Teaching Responsibilities:
- Full-time instructional load teaching in areas of expertise within the academic discipline
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring Students
- Other teaching responsibilities

Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.

Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College & State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

Faculty - Professional Development
Limited term faculty are expected to stay current in their field.

Faculty - Service to Institution
All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and departmental events.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A Phd in Philosophy, Religion, or related field is preferred. Minimum requirement is a MA in Philosophy, Religion, or Related field.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)).

Required Experience
A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours related to the discipline.

Teaching Experience as the primary instructor of record in either Survey of Philosophy or Introduction to World Religions.

Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
A Phd in Philosophy, Religion or related field is preferred.

Proposed Salary

Maximum Salary $55,000.00.
