This regular, full-time administration position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexible or extended hours as needed by the department or the College.

Regular on-campus presence is expected for all KCC employees. Any flexible and/or hybrid work schedules are subject for review, approval, and/or change based on the needs of the College.

Position Summary
The Director of Institutional Research and Compliance supports the College's mission by providing strategic leadership for institutional research, institutional data management, and regulatory compliance. This role oversees the collection, analysis, validation, governance, and reporting of institutional data to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director collaborates closely with academic and administrative units to ensure the availability of high-quality, well-governed data and delivers timely, accurate insights related to student success, enrollment management, program effectiveness, workforce outcomes, and overall institutional performance.

The Director has primary oversight responsibility for federal and state reporting and compliance, including but not limited to IPEDS, state-required submissions, and other mandated surveys and data collections. This includes coordination of institutional survey management activities, ensuring consistency, data integrity, appropriate governance, and alignment with institutional priorities. The position ensures transparency, accuracy, and consistency across all official reporting and serves as the College's primary liaison with external agencies and auditors.
In addition, the Director provides leadership for institutional data governance, working in close partnership with key groups and committees across the College to establish and maintain data standards, definitions, ownership, and stewardship practices that promote responsible data use, consistency, and shared accountability. The Director oversees institutional dashboards, reporting tools, and analytics platforms, ensuring alignment with governance standards and institutional priorities, and contributes to strategic initiatives through advanced analysis, forecasting, and predictive modeling that enhance access to, confidence in, and effective use of institutional data across the College.

Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people. Leisure activities, natural resources and learning opportunities provide a foundation for residents. Located along the I-94 interstate, Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo, 60 minutes of Lansing and Grand Rapids and within three hours of Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, Educational Research, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Four or more (4+) years of progressively responsible experience in institutional research, data analysis, business intelligence, compliance reporting, or related field.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in relational database systems, enterprise reporting platforms, and business intelligence and analytics tools, with the ability to provide strategic leadership for institution-wide reporting, analytics, and data access initiatives.
  4. Experience should include responsibility for institutional reporting, data validation and reconciliation, cross-functional collaboration, and support of planning or decision-making initiatives.
  5. Advanced analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex, multi-source data sets and translate findings into clear, actionable insights that inform strategic planning, operational decision-making, and regulatory reporting.
  6. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical, analytical, and compliance-related information effectively to executive leadership, governing bodies, faculty, staff, and external agencies.
  7. Working knowledge of federal and state higher education reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS and state-mandated submissions), institutional compliance practices, and data governance principles, with demonstrated ability to ensure data accuracy, consistency, integrity, and appropriate stewardship.
  8. Experience supporting or leading efforts to modernize data management and reporting processes, including reducing reliance on manual, legacy, or highly customized reporting approaches.
  9. Demonstrated effective collaboration with multi-level stakeholders.
  10. Supervisory experience.


Preferred but not Required
  1. Master's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, Educational Research, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Prior experience in a higher education environment.


Proposed Salary
According to the Kellogg Community College Hay Administrative Compensation program, the 2025-2026 annual salary range for a Director 1 position, $74,683 to $93,355 to start. The 2026-2027 annual salary range for a Director 1 position will be $76,923 to $96,156, effective July 1, 2026.

Job Duties

Essential Function: Institutional Data Management

Description: Provide leadership for the collection, analysis, validation, and interpretation of institutional data to support planning, assessment, and evidence-based decision-making across the College. Ensure institutional data assets are accurate, accessible, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Leverage appropriate tools, technologies, and analytical methods to extract, organize, analyze, and present data in ways that support institutional goals and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead and support transformational efforts to modernize institutional reporting and data access, reducing reliance on manual, legacy, or point-to-point reporting methods.
  • Partner with Information Technology and functional areas to improve data integration across systems and promote scalable, sustainable approaches to data exchange.
  • Support transitional and long-term initiatives related to institutional compliance and reporting modernization, including efforts to streamline processes and reduce reliance on complex customizations.
  • Manage staff reporting to the position.

Essential Function: Federal and State Reporting Oversight

Description: Provide primary oversight and accountability for federal and state reporting, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of all externally reported institutional data.
  • Oversee required submissions, including but not limited to IPEDS and state-mandated reporting, ensuring compliance with applicable definitions, timelines, and reporting standards.
  • Audit, validate, reconcile, and document institutional data across systems to ensure reliability and transparency in official reporting.
  • Serve as the College's primary point of coordination for federal and state data requests, audits, and follow-up inquiries.
  • Support strategic planning and compliance efforts through data projections, trend analysis, and predictive modeling related to enrollment, outcomes, and other institutional metrics.

Essential Function: Strategic Collaboration and Reporting

Description: Partner with academic divisions, administrative offices, and senior leadership to identify information needs and deliver actionable insights that inform institutional planning, student success initiatives, and resource allocation decisions.
  • Translate complex data into clear, meaningful narratives that support strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee institutional dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and compliance requirements.
  • Provide leadership for institutional survey management, including coordination, data quality oversight, analysis, and reporting of survey results.
  • Ensure reporting solutions evolve to meet changing institutional, regulatory, and decision-support needs.

Essential Function: Data Governance

Description: Support and advance institutional data governance practices that promote consistency, accountability, and responsible data use across the College.
  • Establish and promote common data definitions, standards, and quality controls in collaboration with key groups and committees across the College.
  • Partner with Information Technology and functional data owners to clarify data roles, stewardship responsibilities, and access expectations.
  • Contribute to policies and practices that balance data accessibility with privacy, security, and compliance considerations.
  • Active participation in institutional committees and data governance groups, as appropriate, to promote data integrity, consistency, and informed decision-making.

Essential Function: Training and Capacity Building

Description: Build institutional capacity for effective data use by supporting faculty, staff, and leadership in understanding and applying institutional data.
  • Provide training, documentation, and guidance on accessing, interpreting, and using data and reporting tools.
  • Promote a culture of data-informed decision-making through ongoing communication, consultation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support continuous improvement in data literacy and confidence across the institution.
