Job Summary
The Associate Director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), under the administrative supervision of and in collaboration with the Director of Internationalization, will provide direction and support for International Student and Scholar Services within GGC Internationalization. This role will serve as Principal Designated School Officer (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO) and as the main point of contact for SEVP to ensure immigration compliance. The associate director supervises assigned staff and student employees and manages the ISSS budget in consultation with the director of Internationalization.
U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency is required to serve as a Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), in accordance with federal regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Manage institutional compliance for F-1 and J1 students and scholars, including orientations and recertification for both programs, SEVIS records, and federal reporting requirements
Advise international students, scholars, and English Language Institute students on immigration regulations, employment authorization, travel, visa processes, academic planning, cultural adjustment, and student integrity to support their success and legal compliance
Assist with the review and evaluation of international student applications, including international transcript analysis, making recommendations for admissions as needed
Assist international students and scholars with matters related to their transition to GGC, including housing and transportation. This and other responsibilities may include driving students within the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
Educate the campus community regarding the international student experience and provide technical training.
Collaborate with College schools and offices to support international recruitment, enrollment management, and student persistence initiatives
Develop, implement, and assess workshops tailored to international student and scholar needs (e.g., international student orientation and J1 scholar orientation, tax compliance, employment guidance, scholarship resources).
Develop, implement, and assess programming for international students that addresses culture, cultural adjustment, leadership, and campus integration, including teaching the international student sections of first-year seminars
Compile and disseminate necessary reports related to International Student Services and student data
Required Qualifications
4 Year / Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Three years of supervisory experience
Six years of relevant experience, which should include:
- Use of SEVIS
- Service as a Designated School Official (DSO)
- Application of F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations
- Work in international student and scholar services, or a related area involving immigration advising and institutional regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with usage of Student information systems (e.g., Banner), and electronic advising tools (e.g. Navigate, Terra Dotta)
Demonstrated excellence in serving a globally rich student population
Knowledge of recruitment practices and strategies
Budget management experience
Active participation in NAFSA and/or other international student and scholar professional communities
Fluency in a second language
Master's degree in a related discipline (international education, student affairs administration, higher education administration etc.)
Proposed Salary
63,500 - 79,500
Salary offer will be dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DOS) regulations regarding F-1 and J-1 statuses.
Ability to translate complex, evolving federal regulations into clear, actionable advice for students, scholars, and campus stakeholders.
High-level skill in maintaining accurate electronic records, managing I-20/DS-2019 issuance, and tracking deadlines
Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with people from various backgrounds and those whose first language is not English
Ability to remain comfortable and productive in unfamiliar or unclear situations
Familiarity with university policies regarding admissions, student conduct, and academic progress
Ability to establish common goals that align the interests of a wide range of stakeholders
Ability to handle sensitive or emergency situations with confidentiality, tact, and composure
Effective, consistent, and transparent communication, including public speaking and written communication
Understanding of event logistics, timelines, and production methods.
