Job Summary

The Operations Specialist for Wellness and Recreation is a Student Affairs professional who reports to the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation and plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Wellness and Recreation Center and related facilities. This position is responsible for supervising and developing student staff, coordinating facility operations, managing equipment and inventory, and ensuring that recreation spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming for students, faculty, staff, and guests.

The Operations Specialist collaborates with campus partners across departments to support programming, events, and services that promote student engagement, health, and well-being. The role includes oversight of facility usage, risk management practices, equipment maintenance, and operational logistics to ensure a high-quality recreational environment that aligns with the mission and goals of Georgia Gwinnett College.

This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is responsible for reporting crimes and other incidents to the Clery Act Compliance Officer for inclusion in the Annual Campus Security Report in accordance with the Federal Clery Act and GGC policy.

Responsibilities

Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of the operational schedule for the Wellness and Recreation Center, ensuring adequate staffing coverage and efficient facility operations.
Supervise and support student staff by providing ongoing training, guidance, and evaluation related to facility operations, assessment procedures, safety protocols, and customer service expectations.
Collaborate with academic departments, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), Athletics, and other campus partners to coordinate space reservations, wellness programming, fitness assessments, and exercise planning initiatives.
Oversee the daily operations and management of wellness and recreation spaces located across multiple campus facilities, ensuring they remain safe, organized, and accessible for users.
Coordinate with the Director of the Convocation Center to support the supervision and operational oversight of wellness and recreation activities occurring within the Convocation Center.
Train and develop student staff in proper assessment procedures, risk management practices, safety protocols, and facility monitoring to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
Enforce departmental policies, procedures, and facility guidelines to maintain compliance with institutional standards and promote responsible use of recreation spaces.
Conduct routine equipment inspections and inventory checks to ensure all fitness and recreation equipment is safe, properly maintained, and fully operational.
Respond promptly and professionally to facility, staff, and participant needs, addressing concerns, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive and welcoming experience for all users of the facility.

Required Qualifications

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in a related field
1-2 years' experience in a recreational setting

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with administration and assessment of a collegiate facility operations and staff.
Successful track record of staff development and management.
Must enjoy working in a collaborative, collegiate environment.
Industry membership and involvement through organizations such as NIRSA
Working knowledge of computers and various software packages used for word processing, graphs, table, etc. (Microsoft Office 2003 or higher)
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification

Proposed Salary

42,100 - 50,500

Salary offer will be dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Effective organizational and time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, and oral form.
Knowledge of NIRSA best practices as it pertains to the area
Demonstrated knowledge of ACSM "best practices" for fitness and wellness facilities.
Knowledge of recreation facility operations and risk management practices, including safety protocols, equipment maintenance standards, and emergency response procedures.
Ability to supervise, train, and develop student staff, including providing clear expectations, performance feedback, and support in a fast-paced recreational environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate schedules, manage multiple priorities, and maintain efficient facility operations.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners while providing high-quality service.
Ability to enforce policies and procedures while maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports student engagement and well-being.
Knowledge of fitness equipment usage, facility safety standards, and general wellness practices to ensure safe and effective use of recreation spaces.
Ability to collaborate with campus partners and student organizations to support programs, events, and space reservations that enhance student involvement and wellness.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to respond effectively to facility, staff, and participant concerns while maintaining operational continuity.
