Position: Standardized Patient

Department: Athletic Training, College of Health Professions

Campus: Fort Wayne, IN

Target Hire Date: March 2026

The Standardized Patient plays an essential role in supporting the clinical training of health profession students by portraying patient scenarios in a consistent, realistic, and reliable manner. Working from scripts and case materials, the Standardized Patient recreates symptoms, medical histories, behaviors, and emotional states to provide students with meaningful practice opportunities. Individuals in this role may be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the learning experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and colleagues
  • Interact professionally with learners, faculty, supervisors, and peers
  • Participate in repeated physical examination maneuvers performed by students and faculty
  • Portray scenarios accurately and consistently, including medical history, behavior, affect, and physical findings
  • Complete checklists accurately and reliably
  • Receive and incorporate feedback from facilitators
  • Participate in audio and video recording during simulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:
  • High school diploma preferred
  • Previous acting or standardized patient experience preferred
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude
  • Commitment to confidentiality
  • Valid Indiana driver's license or ability to attend in‑person sessions on the Fort Wayne campus
  • Ownership of a personal computer
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word
  • Ability to participate in virtual or hybrid simulations using platforms such as Microsoft Teams
