NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES

Position Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for primary care and student mental health services under the direction of a supervising psychiatrist. Other administrative duties may be assigned by the Dean and his/her designee. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing medical and mental health services to patients, inclusive of all functions necessary to provide quality medical care; responding to questions/consultations of the staff; following medical protocols, handouts and clinical standards, and assisting in expanding the competencies of the clinical staff.

Required Qualifications:
Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant educational program.
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certified for FNP’s.
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certified for PA’s.
Existing unrestricted license to practice in Michigan, or ability to be licensed in Michigan upon hire.
Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or planned attainment.
Excellent practice history.
Ability to be insured for liability purposes.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of post-graduate clinical experience.
Specialty in Psychiatry or experience working with mental health services with interest or experience working in a college or university setting.
Experience working with Electronic Medical Records and computers.
Experience in an Academic Medical Center, Urgent Care, Walk In Clinic, or teaching environment.
Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Practices medicine using sound medical judgment and adheres to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; knows limitations and consults on matters when advisable.
Stays abreast of current technologies and industry standards.
Follows all internal policies and procedures, remaining accountable for the completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical documentation that supports sound medical billing, compliance, handling of PHI (protected health information), and the financial viability of clinical services.
Works openly with administrative leadership to understand productivity benchmarking including the use of relative value units (RVU) targets.
Advises administration of any issues that may impact clinical operations.
Sees patients in a timely and efficient manner per current practice management protocols including open patient access, wait times, patient throughput, and client satisfaction.
Completes and attests open encounters the same day as the patients visit per existing policy.
Recognizes diversity of patient population and treats all warmly and kindly.
Works in harmony with other members of the healthcare team to provide quality service to patients.
Provides quality care to patients by following the most current evidence-based guidelines and procedure of practice.
Takes part in retrospective quality, billing and compliance reviews.
Promotes CMU Health Services to all clients in an open, positive manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
